Recep Tayyip Erdogan has faced accusations before of acting like a “sultan” – never more so than when he was made Turkey’s first elected president after 12 years as its prime minister.
But those claims have been given new vigour after it was revealed that he has built himself a palace that is bigger than the White House or Buckingham Palace, occupies more than 1.6 million square feet of land and cost almost £400 million
Quoted in The Telegraph, the leader of the opposition Republican People’s party Kemal Kilicdaroglu said: “The so-called sultan has built this for himself in a country where three million people are without work. You cut down hundreds of trees to build yourself this palace.”
Do you think he's compensating for something? :v:
For 400 mill you think he'd build something a bit less ugly
Honestly this is what everybody does, the WH is like 60% office building with 20% being grand space for events and 20% for the first family, all these countries build palaces but they generally are just big mansions not office buildings and bunkers like the whitehouse
It's more of a fortress than a palace.

I think its pretty decent IMHO
Like, at least its not another fucking designer square.
For what I've heard this building was illegal for some environmental reasons and he knew it, yet he still went with it. Fucking politicians who think they are above the law make me so angry.
absolutely harem

It looks like a Chinese knockoff of an Arabian palace
Do you think he's compensating for something? :v:
well of course, dictators always have some sort of freudian issue(s) with themselves
Apparently it's even bigger than the Palace of Versailles, and the president doesn't see why this might cause irritation.

About four times as big, and forty times as kitschy.
It also seems to have a lot less park space surrounding it, which I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't like.
