Looking into growing Peruvian Torch/San Pedro Cacti - What should I know?

I know very little about cacti in general, but I know that these species of cacti are readily available, common, and legal, and best of all: They contain mescaline and grow at a decent rate. I've never grown a cactus before, so I'd really like some information from anyone that knows a bit about growing cacti, or better yet, someone who has personally cultivated T. peruvianus or T. pachanoi or knows someone that has. Living conditions, soil type, should I order seeds or try to find one already growing from a retailer around here (It's fall, and I'm in southern Michigan), and any other info you think I should know in advance. I'm going to continue researching, but I'd really like some input from someone who has experience. Thanks in advance, guys.
It takes a really long time to get mescaline, so you better start growing now.
It's the most vile tasting thing ever...

don't let your dog find it and drop it in the middle of your room for your parents to find like my friend did.

...So your parents know that you were growing a cactus for mescaline extraction?
My parents gave me a san pedro cactus as a kid but I got rid of it last year :(

When i came into my friends house a while ago there was soil leading all the way from my mates room to the bottom of the stairs. We had been trying to grow a weed plant in his room for a while and we thought his mum had found it and got so angry that she threw it, so we sat in his room terrified for hours until we got his sister to go downstairs and ask their mum why there was soil there. Turned out the dog had just taken it out of his room and dropped it down the stairs which was quite a relief, his mum hadn't even been upstairs yet.
Cacti cultivation takes years, after the first year, the cacti will only be a little bulb. There are ways to make it grow faster though, but I wont get into that. Basically, you need to provide it with adequate light (be it from CFL's, or sunlight). I would put them in a shady area that gets some sunlight during the day. Even a windowsill could work. Remember that they grow in the desert, so as long as the temps are above about 30 degrees Fahrenheit it will be good.
I would order a cutting, so you don't have to go through seeds. A lot of the cuttings that are mail-order are about 3 years old sometimes less. Mescaline extraction is another story, and ill leave that up to you to figure out.
Good luck!
Heres a guide on how to prepare san pedro for consumption.

I think theres some san pedro growing down the street two of the cactus' next to it have been cut which seems odd for a non mescaline carrying cactus, flowering season just ended so i want to identify them another way it has seven ribs and tiny ass spines. Looks like san pedro im worried it might be posionous i dont know much about cacti...
