One of the most common technologies for watching video on a computer will soon be available for most smartphones.
Flash software is used to deliver around 75% of online video and is the key technology that underpins websites such as YouTube and Google Video.
Until now, many smartphones and netbooks have used a "light" version of the program, because of the limited processing power of the devices.
The new software is intended to work as well on a smartphone as a desktop PC.
Adobe, the maker of Flash, said it should be available on most higher-end handsets by 2010, although Apple's iPhone would continue not to use the software.
"The sort of rich apps we now see being delivered on PCs will now be coming to the phone," Ben Wood, director of mobile research at analyst firm CCS Insight, told BBC News.
"You'll be able to access a lot of the cool stuff that web designers are coming up with."
Does this mean I can start developing flash games for phones?
And the iPhone won't get it. FUCK.
Who cares. It was already on the PSP along with several other devices since 2005 or sooner.
It's a good upgrade, but not news worthy in my opinion.

Most devices only had Flash Lite, it didn't have the full capability of the latest Flash Player.

It had flash 5 or so, I cannot remember. So the article is talking about the latest flash?

Most programs beyond Flash Banner Ads require more than Flash 5 to use :downs:
Flash Lite 3 is on the Wii (its functionality is somewhere between Flash 8 and Flash 9). It is quite a commercial failure, though, so I wonder if it will really be widespread in a few years...
I have flash lite on my n95, it's good but for somethings it does nothing other than crash the browser.
Hopefully get this on my G1.
I'm pretty certain that it'll coming out for the G1, been waiting for it for ages for it, can't wait!
The demo here shows a bit of Flash on the G1:

Nice dude, thanks for showing the vid!
Fuck Apple.
There's an application for viewing YouTube videos, but why not all other flash videos?
I'd be nice if we got something better than Flash 7 on mobile web browsers. Why won't they release the SDK for Flash 10!?!?!
I can play most flashgames that only uses a mouse in my 5800 phone.
Just to clarify, the PSP does have flash but it is Lite. Meaning you can't go on Youtube or what not.

Because they're too frightened of their application cash cow being eroded by free online flash games most likely.
FLASH FOR IPHONE/IPOD TOUCH!!:
http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/10/05/adobe-shows-off-flash-apps-for-iphone-yes-you-read-that-right/
Even some downloadable apps to try.
And the iPhone won't get it. FUCK.
This Just In: Apple gives the iPhone flash compatibility, while the iPod Touch was given nothing.
Isn't HTML5 going to make Flash obsolete?
I actually want to have flash embedded in my Opera Mobile and not as a separate app.
What the fuck, my mum's SE W810i had a fucking flash player. WHY NOT THE IPHONE?
