Apparently The Secret World is going over to the same model GW2 offers, it's about time. Actually great fun, but just not worth the monthly sub.

I like the atmosphere.
I MIGHT maybe pick it up now, I played in the beta and the world and story and all that stuff was super interesting, but the combat was just so boring.
I saw some gameplay where a guy with a rocket launcher was 3 feet away from the mob, and repeatedly shooting it. The rocket would slowly arc and hit the mob. That one scene from all the gameplay I watched turned me off of the game big time
I was interested in this for the longest time due to the story and the supposedly non-conventional approach to combat/questing but I've heard nothing but bad testimonies from people who played. I don't think even this could drag people in.
I liked the shaded "Terms of service applies" so people can't take it literal and whine about bans
Might buy this. Can buy it for around €30 so it's worth a shot.
I always liked the idea of having real world locations
and when I first heard of this game and they were talking about having clan cities and the entire world.
I was like "imma start a clan in my hometown"
So I might pick it up sometime!
may pick this up during the steam winter sale.
From beta, i remember the combat being pretty ass. the game however, has a really cool feel to it.
What about us who have payed it for the first month then quit?

IMO, those rules written on your quote are fine.

So they're trying to stop assholes and trolls?
Who cares?

the rocket launcher is not even a main weapon in the game and shouldn't be the only weapon you use...
especially since you get it in late-game when you should already have mastered your two weapons of choice.
the combat isnt that great and only gets good in segments when you're dodging and weaving through enemy attacks using the roll/flip/dive mechanic, mostly in dungeons and raids. however you are never stuck in a role, and can get every ability in the game if you want. you're allowed to switch out whenever you wish to fill whatever role you need to at that time. you choose two weapons or styles (ex: assault rifles and hammers, or chaos magic and swords, etc) and some weapons synergize together better than others to get maximum efficiency.
the story is great and a lot of the quests are involving. the investigation missions require you to have basic knowledge of circuitry, the knowledge of translating to hebrew, knowledge of italian composers, how to decode messages, etc etc etc... they have a google browser build in-game for this very purpose (though not exactly to look up a guide, which is what most people do).
imo the most intelligent MMO experience ive ever had.
i mean it involves conspiracies and elder god shit, the entire first zone is a love letter to lovecraft and that got me sucked in.
Sucks for those guys that got lifetime subscriptions.
I played it for a while at launch, I picked up a retail copy, installed it (holy fucking shit, when I months later went on a hard-drive clearing spree, I found the game is about THIRTY-FIVE GIGS), played it for a bit and liked it somewhat, but the combat was just poorly done and finger raping. The fact that you don't use the mouse for primary attacks is just really awkward. But, will give it this, the investigative quests are a very nice and refreshing distraction from the mundane, atrocious combat, although, they're a bit cryptic at times. I understand that they're supposed to be like that, but some of them are just confusing, and not in a good way.
They'd be infinitely more pleasant if you could review all the clues you found so far.
The PVP is done nicely, in that it instantly scales everyone to the same level, no matter if they're a level one or a level I-don't-fucking-know-the-cap.
The atmosphere is amazing, but the gameplay is mediocre at best, and god awful at worst, and sadly, the latter is what the game usually is.
So anyone who's played this recently, is the combat still ass, is this worth picking up?
I was worried when you guys said the combat was shit but IMO it just looks like every other MMO's combat, and the gun combat doesn't look too bad at all.
After playing the beta I have to say I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the game. Despite player models looking a bit dated and duplicates of NPC's blatently plastered everywhere the game did a good job of selling the world with intricate detail. Hell some of the aesthetic details were even used for side quests. Combat was a bit boring though and it definitely didn't seem worth the monthly subscription. Might check it out now that it's pay once to play now.
The secret world could have been an insanely good MMO if it had a way better and unique combat system.
The setting, story, and world are perfect, but the combat just ruins it.
Hell yes. Been wanting to play this, but couldn't justify the sub.
Huh, glad I bought this a while back then
I don't trust EA publishing MMOs anymore.
Warhammer, The Old Republic.

I might as well study some before I pick this up.
Tempting simply because the setting seems cool. I love conspiracy stuff.

The setting is what makes me really tempted. It's really nice to see a MMO step outside of the "medival fantasy RPG" which is why I liked SWTOR a bit more than the average MMO.
since its free the only thing you have to suffer if you end up not liking it is the download times. if you enjoy the setting then i suggest you pick it up and give it a try.
started the video, saw EA logo, stopped video
