Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal is reporting (subscription) that the U.S.-led effort involved coordination with the Free Syrian Army, which has also just become the recipient of some American weapons.
This is a joint coalition effort of which the Syrian opposition is a full-fledged member," said Oubai Shahbandar, a senior adviser to the coalition who was briefed of the U.S. strikes in advance. He was addressing concerns some elements of the opposition had that the U.S. would turn its back on the armed group and instead partner with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to defeat Islamic State militants."
Russia was quick to condemn the airstrikes. The Washington Post noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin — the patron saint of territorial integrity — decried the airstrikes as a violation of Syria's sovereignty.
Russia is insistent that U.S. measures to target militants in Syria lack authority without buy-in from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad — a point Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon Tuesday."
Not only did Syrian dictator Bashar Assad refrain from lashing out against the American-led airstrikes, he seemingly gave a very coded thumbs up: Meanwhile, in southern Syria, Israel used a Patriot missile to shoot down a Syrian jet that was said to have encroached into Israeli airspace. From Haaretz:
The jet was toppled over the Syrian side of the Quneitra border, after it had flown 800 meters west of the border into Israel and turned around. The decision to down the jet was made after 1:20 minutes of flight; when the Patriot hit the plane, the Syrian pilots had already turned around and flown back into their territory

[editline]23rd September 2014[/editline] http://news.yahoo.com/russia-condemns-u-airstrikes-isis-al-qaeda-assad-113157006.html

I bet you're sorry now US!
Shit gets kind of confusing. Assad is evil, according to the US and its allies, but he wouldn't mind getting possibly bombed (along with the other factions/jihadist) But he still support his country getting bombed by so many countries. Well I guess at this point he's the lesser of the evils.
The one thing that everyone forgets about Assad is that he's bombing his own country to get rid of the rebels. Having the US bomb ISIS is letting the US do the heavy lifting; all that matters now is to make sure that they don't shift the guns at him in later stages of the war. He can pull that off with some sort of a compromise, knocking out the opposition but assuring further political liberties under the eye of NATO/UN.
I know I'm the only one but I really really want to know what Kim jong un thinks of all this
Israel is mighty fast on that trigger.

Oh yeah? Well...the US condemns Russia's condemnation! So there. 'Murica.

Kinda weird that the site uses tacit acceptance as a thumbs up gesture. When it's closer to a not thumbs down gesture.
Putin has denounced Obama
Putin has denounced Obama
I need to reinstall Civ5. You just reminded me of all the fun I have whenever I get denounced and happen to be the most technologically advanced motherfucker there.

Russia is so retarded. America takes action against an evil terrorist group and we have international support. There are several European and Arab nations that support us. They want to see ISIS wiped out too. Russia invades Ukraine the flimsiest of pretenses and no one likes them, so we issues sanctions against Russia.
