WASHINGTON, Aug 30 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is expected to make a statement at 12:30 p.m. EDT (1630 GMT) on Friday about Syria, a U.S. government source said.
The United States is deliberating about action to punish Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government for an apparent poison gas attack on civilians. The momentum for a decisive strike slowed after a British parliamentary vote on Thursday against it. (Reporting by Mark Hosenball; Editing by Vicki Allen)
Do these things always run late? I have noticed whenever an American politician says they are going to have a press conference at half past an hour it seems to always happen at the start of the next hour.
He's started now.
So he is saying everyone should read the evidence they have put out, where is it? Finding the stuff the British government put out was really easy.

Also if what he is saying (and unlike a lot of people on here, I am not instantly sceptical of intelligence claims) is 100% true then its pretty shocking and clear cut.
This guy is so full of shit.
I really hope we get some more info on how they know these things

I'm sure the military and intelligence agencies can find out this stuff. He said they know exactly where the attack was launched from etc.
He is making a good point about if nothing is done what will North Korea and Iran think.

And you know this how? Do you have access to the classified intelligence he is talking about? No? Stop being so fucking cynical.
Admittedly he could be full of shit but you have no way of knowing that. He could be 100% correct for all you know.

I guess they use their quite impressive network of spy satellites to do this. If they are watching an area (which they probably have been for a while) it wouldn't be too hard to see things being setup and fired. The photos they released from Libya were quite clear.
Oh thank god, I thought he was building up to revealing military action.

He's a politician. They're all full of shit regardless of whether or not they're correct at any one given moment.
if there's anything snowden and the other leakers have taught us is that one should never underestimate the power and scope of the CIA and nsa and their intelligence gathering capabilities. Obama should be up there taking a shot at Russia and asking why they are ignoring the u.n.`s conclusion as well as the growing body of evidence. instead he sent old long chin to do it for him.
He is making a good point about if nothing is done what will North Korea and Iran think.
honestly i'm inclined to say who the fuck cares
i really want to go in to help people on the ground. but each time we've invaded in the past 50 years to oust a state it's ended badly for everyone involved. we're just not good state builders anymore, and iraq and afghanistan have really cemented that.
if iran and nk see this as a sign of weakness, so what. it is not going to change anything; the real balance of power will not shift because of this, it'll only serve as a minor embarrassment for the state. most of the time undue persistence has been the cause of more problems.

Here's the document. Love the evidence and citations.
"Independent Sources"

That'll be the videos of the attack. Unless it comes up again (only read the first page so far) it is only referring to the evidence that the attack took place.
Apparently one of the area's the attack was launched from was a military base under the command of Assads brother.

Dont underestimate the works of the CIA
Shame what they released wasn't released 24 hours ago, might have changed the view of the parliament here. The UK looks pretty ineffectual right now.

Making a decision to not bomb another country on doubtable evidence? That's not ineffectual, that's making a logical call.

No they made a decision without any evidence at all. Basing military action on what Cameron put out yesterday would have been equally silly.
The documents literally show nothing. It is just all "we believe, we have high confidence," etc. No real sources, no real evidence, no nitty gritty, nothing. Everything in that tiny 4 page document I've already read on the internet a week ago.
fucking worthless.

Do you honestly fucking think they are going to release actual (classified) intelligence that they are currently actively using? Do you want them to reveal their source? Do you not understand secrecy exists for a reason?

Yes.
Them trying to justify a war but then saying "lol we can't give you evidence cause we got to keep it secret" doesn't cut it.

You probably couldn't ask a government worker when his birthday day is without some noncommittal doublespeak in the answer.

you can't possibly expect the gov to publish the sources and emails and stuff because you ideally would not want those who sent said emails to discover how the gov obtained them. Additionally, I have a strong feeling that even if they did publish some of the information, people would claim that it is forged, etc.

like I said, even if they did publish information, how do we know it's true? if the government really wants to go to war, why bother releasing anything? why not just release falsified information?
