[release]Homicide squad detectives have driven to Barwon Prison to take control of the investigation into the death of notorious underworld identity Carl Williams. Williams died after he was attacked by fellow inmates in the prison early this afternoon. An autopsy will be conducted to see if he died as a direct result of the attack or due to a heart attack. Williams had been on a modified diet and had lost weight since he was sentenced to a minimum of 33 years in 2007 over four murders. Detectives will investigate whether the attack was sparked by reports today that police had paid Williams’ daughter's school fees. Two plain-clothes police arrived at the home of Williams’ father, George, in Broadmeadows about 3.10pm. The men, believed to be homicide squad detectives, were let into the property by an unknown man. A friend of George Williams asked a reporter who knocked on the door to leave him alone. Earlier an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics arrived at Barwon Prison about 1.18pm today to find a man in a critical condition. A police spokeswoman confirmed there had been a death as a result of an assault at Barwon Prison. ‘‘Victoria Police can confirm that a male prisoner has died following an assault which occurred earlier this afternoon,’’ the spokeswoman said. Underworld figure Mick Gatto said he had heard rumours about Williams having died but said that was all he had heard. ‘‘I would rather let dead dogs lie,’’ he said. ‘‘If you hear any more let me know but I would rather not comment on him.’’ He said Williams was ‘‘certainly not’’ a friend. Williams gained notoriety for his role in Melbourne’s gangland war. The 39-year-old had one daughter, with former wife Roberta Williams. In 2007, he pleaded guilty to murdering Jason Moran in June 2000, Lewis Moran in March 2004 and Mark Mallia in August 2003 and conspiracy to murder Mario Condello in May-June 2004. He had previously been found guilty of the murder of Michael Marshall, killed in October 2003. Williams was denied permission to attend the funeral of his beloved mother, Barbara, at the end of 2008 after he was deemed too much of a flight risk. His father George was released from Barwon Prison in June last year after serving 20 months for drug trafficking[/release] Link Picture Of Carl Williams
Good riddance. If only the Victorian police were as trigger happy as they were when dealing with him
Can someone give an explanation of who this guy is for us non-Aussies?

If he is what you guys said he is, good for him.
One less criminal in a penal colony :smug: In all seriousness, why would they make a fucking TV series about this guy? Essentially glorifying and downplaying his crimes(based on his wiki article)?
I have no sympathy for a murderer.

I think the question is, where was Christine Nixon? Obviously she was getting her hair done, or had her phone off...
So he was a drugie, yeah glad he died.
I think the question is, where was Christine Nixon? Obviously she was getting her hair done, or had her phone off...
A better question would be, what the fuck does Christine Nixon have to do with any of this?
A better question would be, what the fuck does Christine Nixon have to do with any of this?
Jesus, you obviously pay no attention to local media. It's a joke. Apparently it was Christine Nixon's fault that 173 people died on Black Saturday, because she went to get a haircut...

The ex-commissioner isn't relevant to any of this.
In all seriousness, why would they make a fucking TV series about this guy? Essentially glorifying and downplaying his crimes(based on his wiki article)?
They didn't necessarily make the TV series about him but more so about the gang wars.
Any crime TV series is going to glorify crime in the process of telling it. 8:30PM tonight, Channel 9 already have a special prepared. They're either doing it live, which I doubt, or had Vince Colosimo preproduce the show because they thought his death was soon.

Or was aired beforehand :P Forgot about that possiblity, haha Yeah, from what I've read, it is just a rerun, although I saw something that said "Premier" on it. Anyway, in relevance to the thread, good riddance. He was just another killer in another gang war, not much need for him.
You managed to forget that Facepunch is full of 15 year olds? You must not come here often.
Been here longer than you by the looks of it. What I did forget is that people have not yet grown up enough to realise what a joke our local media is...
carl williams dies and we get international news about it? fuck... imagine the media when good ol chop chop dies
fuck... imagine the media when good ol chop chop dies
It's coming - he's pretty much dead in the last pictures I saw of him.
Watching the stupid TV special at the moment. Does this really warrant as much media attention as its getting?
Been here longer than you by the looks of it. What I did forget is that people have not yet grown up enough to realise what a joke our local media is...
Nah, I know it's pathetic. I suppose they're just desperate for news, I mean who makes such a stupid mess about someone going to a bar for a few hours?
I think its sad for his kid... Having to go thru living with her mother, Her farther a murderer, and now him dead...
i thought it said cat williams and panicked
I think its sad for his kid... Having to go thru living with her mother, Her farther a murderer, and now him dead...
I agree, but we won't be feeling sorry for the kid for long. Both Carl and Roberta's parents were the dodgiest of the dodgies and those bogans aren't any better. The kid will turn out the exact same as her mum. Good riddance, Carl :byewhore:
Citizens rejoice!
While i dont really want anyone to be killed for their crimes. Carl Williams must have realized that he had a massive target on his head when he went to prison, I mean the guy had to be left in solitary confinement the whole time because they feared he would be killed. Puting someone like him in Barwin Prison wasnt the smartest idea.
