butcher has some skills
Creepy, but informative how the squid sill moves around with it's mantle gone. Love me some sushi/sashimi. Don't go into the YT comments. I almost got a brain aneurysm just by skimming through the section.
It should be noted that when it stands up on its tentacles its already dead, and that's only a nerve impulse.

Good to see some people taking the piss out of others.
When he threw its head in the trash I laughed, it was just so sudden and unexpected for some reason :v:
to be perfectly fair

my favorite food on earth has been observed in nature decorating its lair :/

"Humans are so cruel! Why can't we just respect God's good creatures?!" she says before biting into a Chicken Mcnugget.
I don't worry about those tards calling it cruel
it has to be killed at some point you know, and they didn't do it in a particularly painful or horrific way
I'll eat that
I'm sure the animal cares more about the fact that it's being killed than whether it hurts for a few seconds or a few minutes.
I'll eat that
If it was fried calamari I would
That looks incredibly difficult
and delicious

call me crazy but I'm not sure if squids are quite smart enough to reflect on their own mortality
Some people are daringly to eat it live. Those tentacle latches onto your tongue. Haha. Wondered does it hurt when it latches onto your tongue. o:
But it's definitely chewy to eat whether if it's raw sashimi or cooked.
I want that knife
Dumb question but is the squid actually still alive during this or was all the spastic movement one of those things where the nerves go wild when they die?

It's quite dead once he cut the mantle off. Pretty sure it was alive at the start.

what makes you say that?
didnt the cook pull the brain out before he started chopping away?
you can see it very briefly
he just removed the beak
what makes you say that?

The description says so.

no i mean the mantle part
like i have prepared squid before and i dont think you ever totally remove the brain, it's kind of hard to tell tho

Ah, I was just under the assumption that removing that much of it would not go well from him whether it brain is still intact or not :v:
I don't really know for certain.
call me crazy but I'm not sure if squids are quite smart enough to reflect on their own mortality
I don't think crazy is the term that I'd use here.

they're the dumbest of the cephalopods if that's anything to go by.
Couldn't eat it mainly due to the texture. If I want squid/octopus, its gotta be fuckin' fried.
zilla the fried version tastes different because boiling it softens it and changes the flavor, if you can handle it fried try it unfried at a like a portuguese/spanish/italian joint, you might like it. sashimi is like a completely different thing.

Why does intelligence matter? Dogs are pretty fucking stupid but most people in the west would never treat them this way.
I get the want to eat meat. I enjoy squid as well and that's all fine and dandy, but pointlessly making it suffer over archaic bullshit tradition that supposedly makes it taste better when it is "fresh" (which is kind of true, but fresh doesn't mean "right off the cartilage while still living" it just means not frozen and only a few minutes off the animal at most) which isn't even true.
Like I said, I don't give a shit about actually eating animals. That's the way it was intended; otherwise they would be inedible to humans. I just don't think that violent ripping an animals skin off then carving it into bits while still wiggling is a good thing, and quite frankly I am disgusted that anyone does support it.
i am actually 100% on your side idk why you quoted me in particular

i get what you're saying now, also a legit point

But it's dead within a few seconds? Not even 10 seconds for him to take off the mantle that's basically when it died and the rest is just nerve impulses.
Does he use the fin too? He skins it or something as if he might but the video cuts off too early. I've never had squid sashimi before, looks good though especially for only 1000 yen.
This reminds me of the frog legs plus salt thing.
