Militant left planning 'biggest black bloc of all time' at G20, claims interior minister
Hamburg interior minister Andy Grote claimed on Tuesday that the "militant far-left scene" are behind plans to camp out in the centre of the city in the build-up to the G20 summit.
“The militant far-left” have decided “to organize the biggest black bloc of all time,” Grote told broadcaster ZDF, adding that this would create a serious challenge for the city’s police.
"But the police are prepared," he asserted.
Black bloc protests are associated with the anarchist movement and are often marked by rioting around anti-globalization demonstrations.
In 2007 at a G8 summit in Rostock, a black bloc riot led to over 400 police officers needing medical treatment.
“Protest camps are permitted, but not camps in which people stay overnight,” Grote said.
Anti-capitalist protesters vowed on Monday to occupy public spaces across Hamburg with tents, as tensions with police rose days before the German city hosts the G20 summit on July 7th and 8th.
I really hope I'm not late this time, but I couldn't find it anywhere on here yet.
Hopefully the German police greet them with the baton and standard-issue boot to their scrawny asses.

If they turn violent yeah they should be arrested otherwise I see nothing wrong with protesting this way.
Civil disobedience isnt supposed to be legal or convenient. Otherwise it would be pointless.
Honestly, knowing how Blac Blocks tend to be, they'll start shit by attacking police and vandalizing nearby buildings/cars. If that starts to be the case, they should be dealt with and be slapped with riot charges.
I thought Lex Steele had the biggest black bloc of all time
why do they not understand that this only tarnishes the image of the entire left in the eyes of everyone else?

Eh. I give it ten minutes before cars start to burn and bricks fly through random windows.
Give 'em hell.

Im sure most of them just want to break shit.
I understand a group wilding out if they are being oppressed and abused by the government but this doesnt seems like the case at all.

They're anarchists, they WILL start shit.

Gotta love anarchists, the short-sighted little bastards: just as incapable of effecting lasting positive change as the angry hyperprogressives on Twitter, just they use molotov cocktails for their failed evangelism instead of nasty words
Like, fuck, I get the emotional attraction to ~tear down the evil system~ and ~change the world~ but fuck if an even worse system won't spring up immediately afterward

In other words: you're not actually allowed to protest; we'll give you the illusion of being free to protest so hopefully you'll just give up when you get tired and go home, but you're not allowed to engage in any concentrated activities that could actually be effective.
Like, one of the reasons why this is turning out to be such a big deal in the first place is because Trump and Putin are going to be showing up and holding a meeting of their own (source).

I mean when you consider the last time that this happened, it caused a riot to break out and resulted in 400+ officers getting injured. So not really the wisest idea lol.
But if you want to help radicalize more people even further and give them political ammunition to use in their recruitment efforts, then by all means, use brutality against them.

Police are already arresting protestors and tearing down camps.

Savage.
You know, despite what some people like to boast, there's no statistical evidence that black blocs are any bigger on average than white blocs.
I dont get this sentence "Black bloc protests are associated with the anarchist movement and are often marked by rioting around anti-globalization demonstrations."
are they for or against globalization?
because if they are for it, its pretty ironic given their anti-capitalist stance.

It seems the usual methods are either barricades or a poster distributed by leftist activists that rejects the event and asks protesters not to wreck the place.

"Around" meaning "within close proximity to."

Ya' know the funny thing is I'm not even upset. I know I have to workout, and already have been doing so. :v:
My point still remains though, if the Black Blocs start shit, hopefully they get the shit kicked out of em'.

Sounds like a quick and easy way to radicalize them and cause riots.

Why do you seem so excited for police to abuse people you don't like?
Why do you seem so excited for police to abuse people you don't like?
I'm supporting putting the boot to a bunch of asshats who go around destroying private and public property, attack random people in the street, have a history of mugging people, and just large rap sheet of things.
Seriously, I have no problem with most left-wing groups, hell I know quiet a few militia movement folk who form their own anarchist groups. Black Bloc is not those type of people though. They are looking to destroy things for no reason.
Sounds like a quick and easy way to radicalize them and cause riots.
Radicalize them, excuse me? You think because the cops showed up and told them to go home, they're going to come back with guns and bombs or someshit?

Because it's funny when assholes get fucked. And yes, smashing other people's property makes you an asshole.

I mean, I get wanting them to be arrested and whatnot, but it's a little disturbing to want police to beat them, something which police absolutely shouldn't be doing.
[editline]5th July 2017[/editline]
Also I don't think black bloc goes around mugging and attacking random people?
Does it?
Antifa isn't new in Germany, compared to Red Army Faction and similar groups active before this is nothing. Yet SPD/Linke/Greens are doing fine. I doubt people here put all the ""left"" in the same basket or use "left"/"democrat"/"liberal"/"green"/"red"/-this particular group- completely interchangeably.
[editline]5th July 2017[/editline]
Having a party called literally "the Left" probably helps since now people will get confused when you say "the Left" and mean the Greens, instead of, you know, "the Left" (die Linke).
This. Politics in Germany are relatively diverse and not too partisan, so our outlook on issues like extremism is more differentiated.
There are definitely some people who paint entire political tendencies with broad strokes near the ends of the spectrum, but overall it's not even remotely as much of a problem as in the US.
