"I’m fucking sick of this shit. It’s fucking hard enough to fucking win here to have fucking every fucking opponent know exactly what the fuck we bring to the table every day. It’s fucking horses shit. I don’t like it. It’s what I’m saying."
Reds manager Bryan Price went on a profane rant during his daily pregame meeting with reporters Monday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
According to the Enquirer, Price was upset with the paper’s report Sunday that catcher Devin Mesoraco was not available to pinch-hit during Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals. During Monday’s meeting, after television cameras had left and about 10 reporters remained in the visiting manager’s office at Milwaukee’s Miller Park, Price asked Enquirer reporter C. Trent Rosecrans why he reported the information.
“Well, as a fan, I’m wondering, here’s a spot for Devin Mesoraco, why isn’t he there?” Rosecrans replied, according to his transcript.
According to Rosecrans’ unofficial tally, the five-minute, 34-second, expletive-filled tirade that followed included 77 uses of the “F” word or a variant and 11 uses of a vulgar term for feces (two bovine, one equine).
Rosecrans also reported the Reds had called up catcher Tucker Barnhart when they flew on the same plane to St. Louis on Friday. Price was upset Rosecrans broke the news before he could tell backup catcher Kyle Skipworth he was being sent down.
“We don’t need to know that Tucker Barnhart’s in the f—–g airport when we haven’t spoken to Kyle Skipworth. I think we owe that f—–g kid the right to be called and told that he’s going to be sent down as opposed to reading that Tucker Barnhart is on his way from Louisville. I just … I don’t get it. I don’t get why it’s got to be this way. Has it always been this way where we just tell f—–g everybody everything? So every f—–g opponent we have has to know exactly what we have. Which f—–g relievers are available, which guys are here and which guys aren’t here, when they can play, and what they can do? It’s nobody’s f—–g business. It’s certainly not the opponent’s business. We have to deal with this f—–g bulls–t.”
Price, whose team had lost four in a row and seven of eight before beating the Brewers on Monday night, was just getting warmed up.
“I like to talk — and I have spoken as candidly as I can with you people, if that’s not good enough, I won’t say a f—–g thing,” he said. “I’ll go, ‘yes sir, no sir.’ And I can do that. But f–k, I’ve been as candid as I can f—-g be about this team and our players, and we’ve got to deal with this s–t, every f—–g team that we f—–g play has to know every f—–g guy that’s here and what they can and can’t do? F–k me. It’s a f—–g disgrace. I’m f—–g sick of this s–t. It’s f—–g hard enough to f—–g win here to have f—–g every f—–g opponent know exactly what the f–k we bring to the table every day. It’s f—–g horses–t. I don’t like it. It’s what I’m saying.
“To make it very clear, I don’t like the way that this s–t’s going — at all. I don’t like it. I don’t think you guys need to know everything. And I certainly don’t think you need to see something and tweet it out there and make it a f—–g world event. How the f–k do we benefit from them knowing we don’t have Devin Mesoraco? How do we benefit from that? They benefit from it. I just want to know how we benefit from these f—–g people know we don’t have a player here. Can you answer that? How is that good for the Reds?
“Ah, f–k. I’m just, I’m f—–g pissing up a rope in this f—–g business. Because everyone has to know everything all the f—–g time. That’s not my f—–g obligation, it’s not their obligation. You know why f—–g Billy Hamilton didn’t f—–g play? The other day? Because his f—–g finger’s hurt and he couldn’t hit right-handed comfortably. Right? So that’s something that I need to know and no one else needs to know. No one else needs to f—–g know it, and all of a sudden it’s out there. His f—–g fingers are sore.
