Ms Sturgeon had called for an independence referendum to be held in the autumn of next year or the spring of 2019. But she has been considering her options since the SNP lost 21 seats in the election earlier this month. Ms Sturgeon told Holyrood she would now "redouble" her efforts to keep the country in the single market. By then it is clearer what Brexit will involve, she says. At that point she will set out what she thinks should happen next.[/quote]
Well, this will shut up Unionist rivals for a while? They keep force people believing that SNP literally favoring secede is answered to everything.
I'm not surprised that the SNP is holding off another Referendum after they were massacred during the General Election. I'm still not that fond of independence but it's looking increasingly likely that it's going to be the only way to keep Scotland in the single market.
Probably for the best. Independence seems like the better of two options at this point but honestly it seems more ethically sound to not constantly be logging out direct democratic action to achieve ends (even though brexit was a hypocritical sham in this regard) 10ish years is a good amount of time between indie refs. Wait for people to get good and tired of Theresa May's impending catastrofuck, then bring up the independence referendum.
