[quote]Speaker Paul Ryan’s dream of overhauling the nation’s entitlement programs in 2018 will soon run into a harsh reality: His own party isn’t on board.
The Wisconsin Republican has detailed an ambitious effort to dramatically reshape Medicare, Medicaid and welfare programs that the GOP has long targeted as ripe for reforms. But bring it up with key Senate Republicans and House GOP moderates and they blanch — seeing a legislative battle that may not be winnable and that may not be worth it in an election year where control of Congress is up for grabs.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has all but ruled out the idea, saying publicly that he doesn’t expect to see welfare and entitlement changes on the agenda next year, particularly if it's done in a party-line manner.
Other key Republicans are clearly loath to turn to such a sharply partisan pursuit after grueling fights over Obamacare and taxes. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a swing vote during the Obamacare repeal fight this summer, quickly changed the subject when asked about Ryan’s entitlement reform push.[/quote]
edit: fixed the missing ending quote tag
Ryan can't go long without killing poor people.
maybe if these incompetent buffoons would stop voting in party line goose step and had actual morals shit wouldnt be so fucking difficult
what do you think'll happen when you take away the old peoples' goodies, Paulie my boy?

They aren't even afraid to admit they know we hate their logic. Geez.
Turns out going after welfare and medicare doesn't look that great when you've just cut taxes for those poor multimillionaires. Or at all really, for fuck sake.

Bonus points for them just avoiding the issue cause it looks bad. Not just because you're literally making it even harder for low income people to get medical care and decent fucking food.

There are other reasons they wouldn't want to touch these programs, to be fair. Many of their donors are the nations leading beneficiaries of welfare.Walmart, Target, and every regional grocer chain would go out of business if their customers [URL=https://www.forbes.com/sites/clareoconnor/2014/04/15/report-walmart-workers-cost-taxpayers-6-2-billion-in-public-assistance/#4ce7388c720b](and employees)[/URL] didn't benefit from foodstamps. Since we have laws in place banning the importation of cheap and effective drugs from more competitive markets, the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare industries can charge Medicare and Medicade unreasonable prices for life saving medications and care.
The number 1 reason why mitch won't do it, hes out of bullets.
By those "byzantine, arcane, idiotic, rediculous, tomfoolery" rules you get one budget reconciliation tool per year, somehow the republicans think they should get as many as they want but it doesn't work like that, its intended to be used to pass a budget (not that its ever been used to pass one) and to get another one they have to pass the 2018 budget which they used their ticket for on taxes then pass the 2019 budget which would let them go at reconciliation, but with 51 votes in an election year it would be more than murder in the elections

Also theres a good possibility ryan gets a strong democratic challenger because the folks in his district are not exactly thrilled to pay for the massive amount of tax breaks and foot the bill for foxconn to setup shop there
