Nice. Back when I heard TLD was getting a SP campaign I didn't think they'd put in this much effort. We'll see ofcourse but I'm hyped
Holy. Shit. I've had this game in my steam inventory since 2014. Ever since it's baby alpha days it was solid. Now I HAVE to reinstall it after seeing this. Omggg
Dude holy shit, I've been a bit annoyed at the slow pace of development in sandbox that I sorta dropped this game entirely. This trailer looks incredible compared to my expectations for the SP. Definitely excited.
not seen anything about this game before but this looks really fuckin good
The long dark? another one of those boring surv- oh it looks fun
Huh, neat. Only thing I've known about The Long Dark is that it was an early access sandbox. That title made me think this had something to do with Neuromancer at first because I just finished reading that book though :v:
ah yissss. bro to anyone who hasnt played the long dark yet, it's honestly my favourite survival game out there. none of that multiplayer bullshit gimmick. Hunting is hard, crafting takes long, starving and freezing is easy if you don't plan ahead. It's so crazy immersive.

There's a sandbox mode and there will be a separate campaign?
So uhh, what IS the game's story?
So uhh, what IS the game's story?
Looks to me like the basic premise is that a massive EMP, probably caused by a solar storm, has knocked out all the electronics in North America (or possibly just northern America) right as the protagonist was flying north to escape themselves (or possibly because they foresaw the storm coming and wanted to get away from civilization). Civilization ends up collapsing overnight.
I don't really get it. There's a sandbox mode and there will be a separate campaign?
The plan was always to have a singleplayer story with other characters and such. When the game was released for early access it was a big sandbox with pretty much all of the wildlife A.I., crafting, weather stuff, ect in place and you could roam around a big abandoned winter wasteland and survive.
Long Dark is a perfect example of an Early Access game I bought, went "eh 's alright" and let bake in a hidden corner of my Steam inventory. Kind of like 7 Days to Die. Was pleasantly surprised to see how incredibly far it's come in comparison to some of the other games in that pile.
TLD is a great example of early access done right.. all the gameplay is there from the start, and it gets constant updates and devs actually listens to the community. And of course, they actually release the game fully.. :v: It's overall a great game, despite the meme-tier "survival, crafting, sandbox"-games there are so many of. Everything is just done right. Survival is hard and needs forethought and preparation yet it's still so simple. I've waited a loooooong time for story mode to be released... sandbox does get a bit boring after a while. Especially once you reach the point where survival becomes trivial.
I've played it through its stages of development, and I have to say its been a consistently solid game from the get go, very excited for this campaign they've been working on. Honestly I just have a sense of pure catharsis when I'm playing the game, its so relaxing, so desolate, and just perfectly empty and that makes it unbelievably enjoyable for me.
So it sounds like, at least from what people have described here, is that when the game went into Early Access, it had all of the core survival mechanics and relevant content from the get-go. And then, while it was in Early Access, the devs have been working on the single-player campaign, being built atop the survival mechanisms that are available to Early Access supporters already? If so, then that's a really smart way for the devs to do it, and I wish that more devs did it. Didn't the devs behind The Forest do something similar, only instead of dumping the campaign all at once, they gradually added the campaign into the Early Access as segments of it were completed?

I heard David Hayter was in this game but when watching this I wasnt expecting the snake voice, and that I'd have to listen hard to find him :v:
I remember Scot Manley playing this and it's what made me buy it. It's atmosphere is fucking INCREDIBLE. With headphones, you feel like you're there. Even in summer you feel the cold. It's one of the most atmospheric games ever. It's worth every dollar just in that right.
IDK, I think they've taken their time (and that's okay, going on three years since EA) but if the game were more in the limelight than it is, the gaming public wouldn't have been so forgiving
Ya, that's true, it's taken a really long time. But I'd still rather have to wait a long time for a great game to be finished than just have them rush it out in a few months and then it just sucks. It's a long time.. but it's worth it
