Deserved it.
First day at Fanime this year, there was a guy with a megaphone and a giant preaching that stuff. Some other guy attending the con brought his own megaphone and drowned him out telling the people to ignore and not give him the attention he wants. They weren't there the rest of the weekend
I had a feeling that something like this would happen. I hate bible thumpers too, but there is just no excuse to punch someone in the face for it. Just leave them be and enjoy yourself.
Yeah just ignore them, they try to bait you so that they can pull a lawsuit on you for whatever reason they can find.
Yeah just ignore them, they try to bait you so that they can pull a lawsuit on you for whatever reason they can find.
Yeah, that's clearly why they're there.
fight fire with fire, when hasn't that worked? [editline]6th July 2013[/editline] pathetic
Yeah, that's clearly why they're there.
it's how westboro gets part of their funding, also scientologists will do that to but that's one degree of trying to ruin your life.
it's how westboro gets part of their funding, also scientologists will do that to but that's one degree of trying to ruin your life.
You can't associate all street preachers with the WBC in terms of motive, intent, etc. That's an awfully skewed and unrealistic way to look at things
Deserved it.
That's a dangerous mindset.
Values aside, I respect those two preachers for standing up for what they believe in even when confronted with hundreds of people who oppose them. Not many people have convictions that strong these days.
This is America. They have the right and freedom to protest, counter protest, and express their views as much as the pride supporters do. I found it sad and sickening that at an event such as this, people were cheering violence and suppression of the rights of those with other views. Those people were completely out of line.
talk shit get hit but yeah generally when one is protestinge you want to be respectful but when direct insults go to the individual on a personal level then expect shit like that to happen
Wouldn't having a gay orgy right in front of them be more effective at scaring bigots away?
While I don't agree with shoving your religion in people's faces, I also don't agree with shoving your fists in people's faces.
So you approve people being able to protest a right of sexuality, yet you reject people being able to protest against said protest?
So you approve people being able to protest a right of sexuality, yet you reject people being able to protest against said protest? :psyduck:
Ignoring them would be a better protest. Getting yourself arrested for assault isn't going to help anyone's cause.
In all honesty it looks like the preachers were doing a peaceful enough protest against the protest, only the activists became confrontational.
Ignoring them would be a better protest. Getting yourself arrested for assault isn't going to help anyone's cause.
I can see your point, but I was addressing the OP's comments on the situation.
Everyone has a right to what they want to say. Those people who attacked the preachers make us look bad.
That's a dangerous mindset.
So is telling someone their happiness is a sin because your retarded horseshit book says so.
So is telling someone their happiness is a sin because your retarded horseshit book says so.
I think we can draw a very clear line between 'you shouldn't do that it's a sin' and 'I'm gonna punch you in the face for what you believe'
So you approve people being able to protest a right of sexuality, yet you reject people being able to protest against said protest?
No, I oppose people punching people. I don't consider 2 preachers standing around exactly 'shoving religion'. If they were heckling and following people around and tearing down banners, then yeah.
So is telling someone their happiness is a sin because your retarded horseshit book says so.
Newsflash: Not everyone sees things the sameway. More News at 11.
I think we can draw a very clear line between 'you shouldn't do that it's a sin' and 'I'm gonna punch you in the face for what you believe'
Oh I wouldn't punch that person in the face for what he believes. I'd punch him in the face for being a dickshit about it.
You can't associate all street preachers with the WBC in terms of motive, intent, etc. That's an awfully skewed and unrealistic way to look at things
Yes some people will not sue you who have those signs but it's a healthy assumption to know it's a consequence that can occur. Such that if it's not in their heads to sue you during the matter, they can afterwards either from their own independent decisions or persuasion from peers or mentors. I will retract what I said about just lawsuits in that they intend to be confrontational, which can include such routs I've mentioned. Don't know how it's unhealthy to assume someone like that will sue you if push them?
your retarded horseshit book says so.
And people wonder why there's conflict. Honestly physical violence is not the way to solve any issue when it comes to something like this. The best thing to do is either speak louder, or ignore them. Feeding into their attention and growing with hate and anger only entices them to do this more. They want to see you angry. They want to make you hate them, and hit them. That's all they want. They're the ones who want to be able to pull the victim card when available. These people may be horrendous bigots and I do not agree with them in any way, but reacting to them in such a way is inappropriate and does nothing to help anyone's cause.

It is unhealthy to assume they are there solely to get you in a position to be sued.

I said it's dumb to say 'all street preachers are trying to bait people into punching them so they can do a sue and get money', which you did here
Yeah just ignore them, they try to bait you so that they can pull a lawsuit on you for whatever reason they can find.
Regardless of the reasons circumstances escalated, the guys beating up the preachers are at fault. At no point are you justified in physically assaulting another person simply on the grounds that they don't share your opinion.
Oh I wouldn't punch that person in the face for what he believes. I'd punch him in the face for being a dickshit about it.
Hehe how witty!!!11 You're just an asshole. They have every right to counter protest if they want to.
