Nick Carraway, a Midwesterner now living on Long Island, finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. He is drawn into Gatsby's circle, becoming a witness to obsession and tragedy. It's directed by Baz Luhrmann, of Moulin Rouge fame. The director and cast all look great. The Jay-Z in the trailer is a bit silly though.
It doesn't look like it portrays the atmosphere of the book and the director made that bad Romeo and Juliette adaptation.
Interested, the trailer seems to be showing up the glamour side of the book which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just hope it focusses on Nick over Gatsby.
The trailer makes it look aweful, seriously what have they done to this. Completely not what I had in mind when I read the book which is one of my favourites. I reckon they will annoy a lot of the fans of the book with this.

Aside from the music choices (and maybe DiCaprio as Gatsby, we'll see), I'm excited as hell, and it looks great.
i pictured gatsby to be more of an older and more portly fellow compared to leonardo dicaprio's appearance when I read the book. It does look good though, I'll definitely be seeing it.
My only problem with this is that it looks too much like a spectacle. Otherwise, it looks interesting. [sp]At about frame 2:05, you can see George Wilson before he goes looking for Myrtle's killer[/sp]
Love the casting. Here's hoping it's good.

I can imagine toby maguire being a better gatsby, and di caprio being a good tom buchanan.

Everything he makes ends up being male body worship combined with an hour and a half of mardi gras

How the fuck does Leonardo DiCaprio not age? I mean he spends half his time doing Oscar nominated movies and the other half saving the endangered sabre-toothed dodo on Mysterious Island somewhere. What the fuck?
as much as a hate toby maguire, i hate nick carraway even more, so i'm really not too upset about the casting. [editline]27th May 2012[/editline] and i actually imagined dicaprio when i first read the book so this is fucking awesome.

Could have helped me with my english test if it came out earlier......
Luhrmann has a very distinct visual style that's kept me hooked since seeing Romeo and Juliet. Aside from fears of seeing random musical numbers in this movie, I am all for it. Hit-or-miss choice for music though; Craig Armstrong has some good movies to his name but he's also accrued a number of bland filler titles.
I'm hoping the terrible music is only for the trailer and not the actual movie.
hmm that jay-z guy is such a hoodrat!!! his music objectively awful!! also i am a moron

(i agreed with the post above because i hope it's not in, not because it's terrible. i love jay-z)

The people on board the Titanic didn't listen to Dion.

I doubt that this kind of music will be used in the film itself.

I'm glad that girl from drive is in this film. She's an awesome actor.
well even if they do i hope they at least use it well, cause something about it was off in the trailer.
to be fair they used that song in the trailer for safe house and it sounded awkward there as well
As far as i watched from the trailer. The music is VERY UNFITTING towards a 1920's setting. And seeing how this is coming from the guy who directed as i like to call it "The ghetto version of Romeo and Juliet.", i hope he doesn't demonize one of the greatest novels to ever be written.
This looks fairly decent, I didn't picture everything so lavishly though. Everything is just, bigger than I pictured it. I know it was all high class but...

That Austrailian tourist board film he did was an hour I'll never get back but lucky I was smart enough to switch over before the end. Despite the fact that Toby Maguire has a shit mouth I sometimes like his films, 'Brothers' with Natalie Portman was a great performance. Either way, I'll not be watching this. I bet his films are popular with homosexuals.
>2012 come on now
I'm not happy about homosexuals. Can society tollerate my freedom of expression or will it censor me and burn me at the stake because my opinion doesn't fit in with current thinking. As long as I'm not preaching hate, my thoughts and a right to opinion should be respected as much as those who choose this life. Gays are the new Nazi's.
