(sorry if the image is giant; i cant really see its true size while on mobile)
Announced today at the Nike Innovation Summit, the HyperAdapt 1.0 will be the first shoe to take advantage of Nike’s adaptive lacing (self-tying) technology, which the company is touting as an entire new platform for sneakers. This means that one day your Jordan’s, Air Max’s, and FlyKnit shoes could all be built on top of Nike’s adaptive lacing platform. "Your heel will hit a sensor and the system will automatically tighten,” explains Tiffany Beers, the project’s technical lead. “Then there are two buttons on the side to tighten and loosen. You can adjust it until it’s perfect.”
http://techcrunch.com/2016/03/16/nike-just-unveiled-the-first-real-power-lacing-sneaker-the-hyperadapt-1-0/ https://t.co/RVWZgJjkqf They look meh, the lacing is sick though, too bad I have wide feet though, and therefore cannot wear any nikes or Jordan's without destroying my foot.
I don't like the design. I want it to look like the one in Back to the Future 2. Still cool as shit though.
Looks friggin rad yo
gonna be expensive as shit.
What happens when it gets wet?
Drying Mode: On
What happens when it gets wet?
why r your nikes getting wet

They look like small snowboard boots.
Some things deserve to stay in the 80's. The design of those shoes were one of those things.
Why are you still using Windows XP then?
What happens when it gets wet?
These are the types of shoes that will be worn by the type of people who will take them off to protect the sole from scuffs when they go outside, and if not, the sole is probably waterproof.
Why are you still using Windows XP then?
That isn't from the 80's.
That isn't from the 80's.
True. Upon seeing it again I have to agree they look kinda outdated. They could do a redesign however.
Do we have any podiatrists on Facepunch? I'd love to know how constrictive this would be on the foot.
Yeah.. not a big fan of putting motors in my shoes that are intended to tighten things around my feet. I'll let another batch of test subjects receive the recall notices for this one.
Do we have any podiatrists on Facepunch? I'd love to know how constrictive this would be on the foot.
It probably tightens each lace to a preset tension.
save literally 5 seconds of your time by looking like a total geeklord [editline]17th March 2016[/editline] and rip your wallet and maybe your feet
why r your nikes getting wet
what is rain
save literally 5 seconds of your time by looking like a total geeklord [editline]17th March 2016[/editline] and rip your wallet and maybe your feet
I wish tying my shoelaces only took 5 seconds, but it takes me almost a full minute. Shoelaces need to disappear.
I can't wait to have to charge my fucking shoes.
I haven't tied my shoes since the day I bought them. They are just tight enough that they stay on fine but I can still put them on and take them off without untying them.
Shoes / the shoehead thing is so interesting to me now. I might buy a pair just to have them, they look kinda corny but also super cool.
I wish tying my shoelaces only took 5 seconds, but it takes me almost a full minute. Shoelaces need to disappear.
What the hell kinda laces take a minute to tie?
save literally 5 seconds of your time by looking like a total geeklord [editline]17th March 2016[/editline] and rip your wallet and maybe your feet
Of all the technology to call a waste of time, you pick the technology first fake-shown off worn by Michael J Fox, who now suffers from Parkinson's disease and has really weak motor skills to his fingers and a lot of people (especially more elderly) probably find it impossible to tie their shoes, which is why we see old people shoes with velcro all the time the classic shoe design, despite being goofy hightops with ugly 'astro' grey/white styling, even made sense, actually having giant loops you can grip to hold and pull them on easier with
Usually I just stick my foot in the shoe, knot the ends of the laces together so the tightness is perfect then stuff all the lace down the shoe somewhere (it's not nearly as uncomfortable as it sounds, trust me). I haven't had to tie my shoes in forever.
I'm cool with automating things. Sure, I could brush my teeth, shave my face, and do a lot of other things manually but electric toothbrushes, electric razors, and electric other things are pretty neat. As long as it's reasonably priced and reasonably automated I don't see a problem with automation. These don't seem like they'll be cheap or really all that convenient though. It seems like it would be a gimmick. If it's a gimmick in the right direction, I'm unsure, but I hope that it's a starting point to one less thing I'd have to think about. Automate everything!
Looks pretty cool but this is just a pre-rendered video so who knows how this could actually look and work.
I don't like the design. I want it to look like the one in Back to the Future 2. Still cool as shit though.
In reality, you don't though. I'd love the option but those shoes would make you look like a goof if you wore them around. Not that these are much better! It looks less 80s puke and a little more...90s/2000s puke? They'd look so much better if you got rid of that weird pattern on them.
What's with the weird elitism surrounding tying shoes? Like I get that it's easy for most people but there's honestly no reason for it to still be the norm when there's shit like velcro around.
What happens when it gets wet?
From their pattent everything is encased in the rubber, so you'd have to have the shoe fall apart before that's a problem
