Rourke, 62, who was nominated for a best acting Oscar in 2009 for playing an aging sportsman making a comeback in The Wrestler, took on Elliot Seymour, a former California Golden Gloves champion 33 years his junior. In a match at Moscow's downtown Rossia concert hall, the actor — who has been in intensive training in the Russian capital under the guidance of Mike Roach, a former coach for boxers Mike Tyson and Oscar De La Hoya — sent Seymour crashing to the canvas twice in the second round before the referee stopped the match. Rourke was an amateur boxer before turning to acting and before finding Hollywood fame in Adrian Lyne's 1986 erotic thriller Nine 1/2 Weeks. He did not explain why he wanted to get back in the ring, but organizers said that both competitors had been paid handsomely for the bout, though they declined to give precise figures. This was questionable at best, here's some "highlight" footage.
fixed
its an exhibition match not a professional fight it literally cannot be "fixed" there is no prize to be gained. As for taking a dive, clearly people here have never taken a punch to the liver. Hes not taking a dive, hes just a bum and hes not in there to get hurt for an exhibition match.

Matches are usually fixed because people bet on them. Why couldn't this one be fixed? [editline]29.11.2014[/editline] Why the dumb? If you could bet on when the royal baby was born then you most likely can bet on a fucking exhibition match.
its an exhibition match not a professional fight it literally cannot be "fixed" there is no prize to be gained.
bragging rights/arrogance fuel for Rourke
As for taking a dive, clearly people here have never taken a punch to the liver. They probably both made shitloads of money, maybe loosing was part of the deal. I wouldn't mind loosing to some dude for a couple of millions.

You can clearly see from the position of Mickey's hips that he was arm punching. And if anything that was not a direct hit to the liver, if anything it was a hit to the lower-mid ribs which are shielded by the oblique muscles. And considering it was part way through round 2, the other guy clearly wouldn't have been tired enough to get rocked by such a hit. TL;DR they totally staged it

The liver is located in the right side in the vast majority of people.
You can tell that he's either not trying at all or he's just an absolutely terrible boxer. Rourke has his guard down constantly and the other guy never even tries to hit him.

People said the same shit when Hopkins knocked out DLH with a shot to the liver, that it was staged because nobody saw the punch. Not staged, just not dramatic. Mickey is leading with his left hand, i.e his left hand hits his opponents right side. It was a liver shot. The first dive is a hook to the ribs/kidneys on his left side, yes.
Why'd he even come back if he's gonna fix the match? He has all the money in the world so i cant imagine its for profit. This is just sad.
maybe Im just getting wires crossed here His opponent is a bum who just showed up for a payday - I just don't see how this is a "fixed" fight. If I'm an out of work fighter who gets payed just to show up, I'm quitting as soon as possible so I don't get any permanent damage.

Its an exhibition match. There is no purse. They got payed an appearance fee like you would for any entertainment production, i.e both seymour and Rourke have already been paid in full. Fixing a fight would be paying someone specifically to lose when the bets come in favorable.

Which isn't _quite_ as egregious, but is still pretty bad
How come its ok for him to fight guys half his age but its not ok for me to beat up 9 year olds? Fucking double standards
