Jian Lin, a former naval officer, has given his son the present we all, as children or adults, have yearned for from our incompetent or uncaring fathers, a good damn fully functioning tank! Jian sold his truck earlier this year, and used the funds to build his 6 year old the perfectly safe death machine. The tank is modeled after the Type 63A light tank yet is more gas efficient due to it being built with an 85% lighter construct. Jian Lin was meticulous when choosing which parts would be used on this fabulous toy, selecting only the best used tractor and truck parts. The doting father even test drove the son's new toy to ensure it was safe, onlookers stood there, mouths agape in awe. Only when a small group of truly patriotic onlookers begged Jian for a demonstration did he stop the tank, point the turret skyward, and salute before unleashing perfectly harmless rounds into the air. As the time grew near for Jian's son to take his father's place in the drivers seat, the obvious question hung in the air and only one brave reporter from the Xinhua news agency dared ask, "How is your son and all of his friends going to climb into such a large tank?" Jian, his bellowing laughter heard all throughout Mianzhu village, looked at the reporter, who was no doubt an inferior father, and answered, "the tank has a special side door so that children can climb into it easily."
Truly, if only we had fathers as loving as Jian Lin, the world would become a safer place overnight.

I remember a few years ago there was this dude who built his son a small Leopard looking tank you could actually drive and it could actually shoot small, soft rockets.

I can just imagine that kid's reaction when he saw it.
the wheelbase looks so short it'd get hung up on its own front end if he went up any kind of hill

Pleb
edit: don't ever make a joke about how a miniature tank built for a child is lame if it uses dummy ammunition, 7 facepunchers will rate you dumb immediately then butthurter will rate you informative just to make you feel better
i wish i had a father growing up.

They're generally overrated.
I didn't even get an APC from mine.
tracks too small, 0/10 would not blitzkrieg
That is still better than getting to be a Navy Seal for a day. I am REALLY jealous.

It's a toy not a serious combat vehicle. This thing will likely never venture beyond a backyard so having ideal cross-country performance isn't that important.
What is important is that this guy built...built...his kid a driveable toy tank as a gift. THat is beyond awesome.
I feel like I've made a terrible mistake in the OP by not emphasising enough that this "toy" tank actually fires rounds. Xinhua did not confirm if the rounds were actually live or not but he lives in Mianzhu village which isn't too far away from the Chengdu hi-tech zone. He also used to work in the navy and this is his recreation of the Type 63a which is amphibious.
On the other hand... he worked in the navy fixing unmanned aerial drones not tanks. I kinda doubt the Ministry of National Defense keeps the 105 mm ammo next to the Hongjian-10's.
Sadly I'm not the military type and know little when it comes to matters like this (besides stating the obvious) but if we can somehow summon that facepuncher with the avi of the TF2 sniper shaking his head I bet he'd know, that guy is like our own personal Tom Clancy.
Looks more like North Korea's main battle tank. :v:
it's all happiness until the kid runs over a friend.

Dunno who that is, but Gunfox usually fills that role for us.

The article says the barrel works. He was firing blanks.

He is but a pioneer. In the future all children will own tanks and participate in organized tanking with their neighbourhood chums.

Jesus Christ that picture is small.

Looking at the barrel, it doesn't look like it is more than a simple toy. A real 105mm cannon would need some serious engineering to absorb recoil and avoid shattering what doesn't appear to be the most sturdy of constructions. Then there are material concerns, with that "barrel" being little more than regular pipe. Plus there is the whole issue of the legality and a host of other things.
It is a really neat toy, and evidence of an awesome dad, not anything approaching a functional tank.

GunFox to the rescue
He's like Batman, speak about him and he will come.

About what you said in regards to legality, he can face up to ten years in jail for this. Even so he said he wanted to begin work on another project, making his son a better replica of the type 63a that is actually amphibious. I swear this doting father won't be happy until he gives his son a fully functioning intercontinental nuclear missile!

See to it that you don't. We are watching, and we will not tolerate failure a second time.
Only real criticism I can offer here is that the tracks look ridiculously small compared to the vehicle hull. It's like a broke up an old mini-dozer to make it.
What he needs to do is make a replica LAV-25. That way, he can get by with wheels.
What's with all the fuklaw avatars lately?
