It's more in line with Giygas memes or All Your Base, it's pretty ancient and the fuss was much greater back then
tbh its a shame no ones made a game to try and follow the gimmick but I'm glad its been avoided because it'll most likely be insanely shit and tryhard
you have to go into it with the attitude that players NEED to know in their head that its just a normal game, and avoid the media fucking you over completely.

Cube Quest, which is mentioned in Ahoy's video, is basically what I've always imagined Polybius to be like.

was a joke about the conspiracy aspect of polybius, the CIA and FBI involvement and whatnot. this was touched upon in the video.
