Hey folks. I'm going on a trip across western Europe this summer, and as someone who has never left the states, I'm stoked as fuck. That said, we have a rough outline for the trip (below), but I could use some suggestions. Reccomendations for interesting things to see and do, places to eat, general do's and don'ts, anything is appreciated. Day 1-4 London (Already have a London pass to do the main attractions, as well as tickets to see Spamalot one night.) Day 5 Train to Calais, pick up car, Visit Atlantic Wall Museum(?) Drive to Bayeux Day 6 Normandy Day 7 Drive to Luxembourg Day 8 Diekirch, Luxembourg -Battle of the Bulge Museum Bastogne, Belgium Day 9 Drive to Remagen Drive along Rhine - Castles? Drive to Munster Day 10 Munster Germany - Panzer Museum Drive to Amsterdam Day 11 Amsterdam Day 12 Drive back to Calais, turn in car - train to London, probably have to spend the night and leave next morning So that's the rough outline with a few specifics in there. I'm totally open to any other suggestions.

If you're able to, go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuschwanstein_Castle I've been and it's amazing. You make a short climb up a mountain, and then you get to see the castle from the inside, and there is also a path that lets you see it from a suspension bridge. Really awesome sight.
hey me too, however I'm couchsurfing mostly Prague, Goteborg, Bergen, Marijampole, Kiev, Budapest, and more :P
What made you want to drive and not use the train?
What made you want to drive and not use the train?
Probably wishing for more freedom in schedules, access to countryside sights or such to where there might not be direct public transportation or just being an american.
don't go to eastern europe if you're driving. you won't come back.
visit finland and pick me up so i can go on a trip with u
And while your in Finland make a booze trip to Estonia and pick the fellow facepunchers here up.
While in London you should definitely check out Camden Town. When I was in London I was there and there was a store that was supposed to be kind of futuristic punk or something, it was crazy in there. Some locals probably know the name of it, also hold the fuck on to your belongings and be aware of pickpockets.

It was awesome, loud rave music in the background and [sp]even an adult section in the back with leather cyberpunk outfits[/sp]. Store is called "Cyberdog" (has a website too: cyberdog.net) [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/CfVzOVa.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/QPorQn6.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/07PYEeu.jpg[/img_thumb] (note how only in the last picture i noticed the sign on the right)
hey me too, however I'm couchsurfing mostly Prague, Goteborg, Bergen, Marijampole, Kiev, Budapest, and more :P
You will be dissapointed in Marijampolė, there's nothing to see. Only cities worth seeing in Lithuania is Vilnius (Our capital, ~700 years of history), Kaunas(Old capital), Trakai (try kibinai while you are there, our karaim national food) and Memel (Klaipėda). You can learn more about here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hvq_otYquOU Also, I'm traveling around Europe with friends in June too, I'm going to Visit Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Czech republic. It will be 5 days trip. Any recommendations? I know Germany pretty well since I'm partly German too, but Czech and Switzerland is really a mystery for me.
don't go to eastern europe if you're driving. you won't come back.
Come on, Baltics/Poland/Czech is pretty western, you won't get kidnapped and have your kidneys stolen unlike Albania or Moldovia. Though Baltics is considered Northern Europe, but I think you meant post-soviet states in general.
If you're not into the prostitutes and drugs while in Amsterdam, there are a few museums and plenty of cultural stuff to check out, like the Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh museum (never been to the latter) Aachen (Germany) is also really neat if you're into old buildings/cultural stuff
If you feel someone shuffling against you, always check your rucksack. There's quite a problem in London with pickpockets targeting tourists.
If you're lucky and it doesn't turn into rainseason (which it usually does around August), Sweden during the summer is gorgeous. Especially in the countryside, at the south.

this is all the information you need. god speed good sir.
There's more to Europe than War. I'm surprised Paris isn't on your list. Vienna is another great city, but it does require a little more of a drive.
Wow, you'll be doing a lot of rushing about. When I go on holiday I try to not move too much. I recommend the science museum and natural history museum in London. And its a great place for getting drunk and having a good night out!
If you're driving somwhere along the Rhine I highly recommend vising the Cathedral in Cologne.
Visit Finland, get drunk and find yourself somewhere in russia!
Go completely crazy on the Autobahn.
