Tim Bradley, the grand dragon of South Carolina for the KKK, led a rally that included only himself and a crowd of onlookers. The rest of the Klan, about 30 members, got lost en route from North Carolina, he said.
After an hour, spectators started to leave but not before a few verbal volleys were exchanged.
"You ain't nothing but a bunch of overgrown young 'uns," one female spectator cried as others signed up to be Klan members. "Trash, trash, trash."
However, Bradley had insisted the rally would be peaceful and stepped in when one man went too far. The man, who spewed curse words and shouted about white rights, was escorted away.
"We just want to let everyone know we aren't the hate group of the '50s and '60s," Bradley said. "We just want our rights, just like the NAACP wants theirs."
Bradley mainly wanted to discuss illegal immigration and health care reform, he said.
The Aiken County Sheriff's Office had said no violence was anticipated, but deputies lined the perimeter of the fence at Gloverville Park, ready to step in.
No robes were present, but Bradley explained robes would be worn later Saturday evening during an initiation at a private farm. He would not disclose the location.[/quote]
The Grand Dragon was bragging about this event, expecting nearly a 1000 Klan members from the surrounding region to converge on the location. He was shocked to see that only he appeared. Followers of his from neighboring North Carolina apparently got lost on the way.
