I'm not sure if this is legit or some elaberate marketing but Back To The Future's Christopher Lloyd, Tony Hawk, and several other famous people just showed off the world's first hoverboard!

What do you think?

*Clearly this is fake and satire, don't take seriously. Buzzkillers*
It's aerodynamically impossible to create a reliable hoverboard platform.
looks pretty fake
Dumb ratings though? Great job on detecting satire, it's obviously fake.....
Totally fake.

you're on the internet, sarcasm doesn't work here.

Don't know about that, but we're not going to have mass produced ones any time soon.

True, sarcam was wrong word. But this entire video is clearly satire, really awesome wish it's legit, but still satire. I simply followed the theme of the video.

No seriously. It's totally impossible to create a reliable platform for a hoverboard at the size of a small skateboard.
The reason for this is that theirs no decent method to create a stabilization method that would keep the board steady, or rather keep you on it. Even if they managed to counter this with simply bottom straps, you would also have to account for the fact that slightest gesture or body movement in a certain direction would turn you into something similar to that of an air flap. Think about riding an actual skateboard, if you gesture or motion your body into a certain direction, you won't turn at full speed as say putting force directly to the board, but air-drag will eventually start pushing you into the direction your body is leaning.
This also doesn't account for the "how the fuck do you make something fly without some form of propulsion"

Pretty simple, you have propulsion all over the board to account for yaw, pitch, and roll and gyroscopes and software to stabilize it. In practice we don't have the tech yet, but in theory it's definitely possible. Also what makes you think no propulsion would be required?
I am just going on what they mentioned in the other video they have up, which can be summed up as "dark voodoo magic"
For the most part, a lot of the current hover platforms require some method of keeping you airborne, such as fans and such. These always have to remain facing downward, and can't exactly act in a VTOL state, so unless you can create a 4-fan system which can act in a VTOL method, you are sorta shit-outta-luck.

I'm thinking more along the lines of more efficient propulsion systems we don't yet have. I don't think we could build a very good hoverboard right now.

Quantum levitation.
But then ofcourse the thing would have to be frozen solid, and above a superconductor. And I have a feeling it wouldn't carry a human.

We could. Just it would be hilariously large.
OP thought it was real, saw he was getting rated dumb and tried to play it off as him knowing all along it was fake.

Yeah, that's exactly what happened, because everything you see on the internet is real.
Why would I believe hoverboards are real based on a video that doesn't show any science? And the shadows in the video doesn't match up.
Hence "I'm not sure if this is legit or some elaberate marketing"

There's currently a lot of research in high temperature superconductors, as they would revolutionize power distribution. Who knows, maybe we could use them for a hoverboard network lol.

Not necessarily.
Of course it is fake but for what purpose. It's obviously something they want to advertise in a viral way.
Maybe a new Back to the Future movie? A reboot? Who knows.

That's what i'm hoping.
Man it really is back to the future with T.O making an appearance.

nope not buying it
btw OP did you know if you say "gullible" slowly it sounds like oranges?
Holy shit what website directed 1000 people here?
I have absolutely no doubt the forums are gona crash.

Google "huvrtech real or fake" first result.

Go be a dick elsewhere please. There's many things in the video that indicates it fake. The jagged shadowing, kneeling to lift the board off the ground, mobile companion app to control the thing? Learn satire.
