Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson has been caught in new controversy after a video showed him advising a group of men to marry girls "when they are 15 or 16". Robertson, 67, caused a storm earlier this month with derogatory comments about homosexuals in an interview with GQ magazine. He was briefly suspended from the show amid the row, but has since been reinstated. In a new video that has surfaced online, Robertson says: "You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16. They'll pick your ducks. "Look, you wait until they get to be 20-years-old, the only picking that's going to take place is your pocket," he says, drawing laughs from the audience. The video reportedly dates back to 2009 and shows Robertson speaking to a group of men at a Georgia event. Robertson married his wife, Kay, when she was 16, according to a biography of the woman on the website of family's business, Duck Commander.
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/duck-dynasty-patriarch-39-marry-young-girls-39-180034851.html#wa8zxim
I don't see how that's controversial, many places allow marriage at that young age, including many states in the US. And he did it himself.

It's funny cause pretty much anyone in the Deep South has these values, but it's like everyone else in the USA is just realizing that some people still uphold them. Edit Rating me dumb cause I look ignorant right? Jokes on you, I live in Texas.
wow i can't believe this great public figure is saying more controversial things who would've seen this coming i am so insulted truly our society is falling apart
People are taking this way too seriously. What are jokes
Didn't someone say that he's doing it because he hates the show
Oh look, dumb hick says things dumb hicks say. What a surprise.
"Look, you wait until they get to be 20-years-old, the only picking that's going to take place is your pocket" This happens probably more often with younger people. Not to mention people change, bla bla. Awful advice overall, 0/10, would not tell my friends
"People change" could be used as an argument to not get married at any age. He and his wife have been married happily since they were in their teens. My parents got married when they were 21 & 19 and have gotten along great all this time. It's not bad advice, couples just have to adjust to one another as time goes by. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
"You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16. They'll pick your ducks." (No, "pick your ducks" is not sexual innuendo—Robertson is talking about cleaning the feathers off of dead birds, a miserable task often left to women to perform.)
Oh man thank god
Meh, he has a point. Women age horribly compared to men. And menopause is a killer.
Meh, he has a point. Women age horribly compared to men. And menopause is a killer.
Because women have menopause at 20.
I love everyone rating me dumb. Telling people to get married at 16 is horrible advice. Someone who is 16 is absolutely not fully matured enough to make a decision like that. Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's smart.
Meh, he has a point. Women age horribly compared to men. And menopause is a killer.
why not become gay then? dick sucking never gets old!
Given the other public dustup recently, I really wonder if this is a hit piece. I mean, seriously, who actually fucking cares about this guy? His family, one would hope. Idiots who think celebrities' opinions are somehow instantly filled with gravitas. And people who want to make money off him. I don't agree with what he's saying, but there comes a point where you have to ask if there isn't a concern troll in the press.
There have been 16 year old men and 30 year old boys. Age as just a number is simplifying the matter far too much.
As general rule of thumb there are probably more 16 year old "boys" than 16 year old "men". Also doesn't it seem even a little creepy for a 20+ year old to go after a 15-16 year old? I mean using Robertson as an example he was 20 or 21 when he married his 16 year old wife.
There have been 16 year old men and 30 year old boys. Before each episode this show should show a warning that reads like, "Warning this show contains cancer."

What are we going to do, forbid people marrying anyone who isn't of the same age?
Meh, he has a point. Women age horribly compared to men. And menopause is a killer.
I don't much know the fuck you're talking about. A 20 year old isn't exactly 'aged' unless this is like, the 1800s or some shit. Besides, women seem to age just about as well as men. Both can stay attractive into their 40s, MILFs are a thing, and generally after 60 chances are neither is going to have a whole lot of young people wanting to bone them. Seems equal to me.

[editline]31st December 2013[/editline]
My parents got married young too (18 and 19?), but they didn't go to college. We live in a different time, peoples professions they choose when they go to college can cause them to have to move to certain areas, making or breaking relationships.
College isn't mandatory for being successful in life, then and now. Besides, jobs change over time. You can get a job in another state at the age of 40 with 20 years of marriage under your belt.
why this insignificant man's opinions continue to be perpetuated and given attention is beyond me person says unpopular opinion let's discuss this for months on television
At age 16 your job choices are slim because of the lack of education. You would usually get a minimum wage job at that age.
It's not like you're promised $1,000/h once you graduate college.
Um I don't even know where you got that from my post. I was talking about how a 16 year old hasn't even completed high school yet, which limits some job options.

What are we going to do, forbid people marrying anyone who isn't of the same age?
tbh, after 18, the difference in age is almost negligible when it comes to relationships unless it's an absurd number i mean, you're 5 years older than your gf, and that's completely normal. but imagine a 15yo dating a kid that's 10? or a dude that's 18 dating someone who's 13? i just don't think getting married at any age lower than 28 is a good idea, and i really wouldn't agree with someone getting married at 16.
Um I don't even know where you got that from my post. I was talking about how a 16 year old hasn't even completed high school yet, which limits some job options.
I assumed you meant college, my mistake. Also, I don't recall married people being forbidden from finishing high school. [editline]31st December 2013[/editline]
More people are going to college now then they were back then, though. And I wish it weren't mandatory, but you can't get into a lot of professions without a college degree. If you do you are a lucky lucky man. Not sure what your last sentence is trying to say, but people aren't going to wait 10 years to get a job in a specific area, they tend to try to get one as soon as they're out of college. Committing at 16 is really locking in your future, usually doesn't leave a lot of room for flexibility. Nothing wrong with that if that doesn't bother you, of course. I personally wouldn't recommend it.
Flexibility is irrelevant. A couple has to work together to make it work. If that requires some time apart due to school or work and they're fine with that, then that's okay. I really don't see how getting married at the age of 16 pretty much destroys any future of happiness and prosperity. My last sentence is about what you said about going to college may "make people move to certain areas, destroying relationships". It doesn't make any sense because that can happen at any point in a marriage, early or late. People change jobs, jobs get lost, better jobs get found. Not all of those are found in one town you grow up in with your wife/husband.
I assumed you meant college, my mistake. Also, I don't recall married people being forbidden from finishing high school.
Are we talking about being married with children or just marriage in general? Try taking care of a child at age 16, while finishing your education, with a minimum wage job. Even without children, it just seems really unwise to marry at age 16. Like someone mentioned before, most 16 year olds can't really make that type of decision.
