His campaign quickly clarified that he meant "incident," but not before the apparent slip of the tongue sparked a social media backlash, inviting inevitable comparisons to the so-called "oops" moment that defined Perry's last bid for the White House. The comment came during a TV interview in which Perry was asked about President Obama's response to the shooting, which left nine people dead at the historically black Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston. In a speech Thursday, Obama suggested more gun control might be necessary to prevent tragedies like it.
:v:
Of all the slips of the tongue you could make, you make the absolute worst possible one you could in the moment.
Well he certainly just had an accident
nature finds a way guess we don't have to worry about this guy's campaign now
Channeling the spirit of Bob Ross. There are no such things as mistakes, only happy little accidents.
So long and farewell.
Of all the slips of the tongue you could make, you make the absolute worst possible one you could in the moment.
It's also classy how he immediately latches on to it for political reasons. Obama just mentions that other advanced industrialized nations don't have these problems, and Perry's all "YEAH BUT IF YA VOTE FER ME I WON'T TAKE YER GUNS AWAY!"

Man you should at least correct yourself immediately if you make a mistake like that.
I don't think he could've chosen a more suitable campaign slogan, honestly.

Didn't he blame the last "opps" moment the last time he ran to his pain medication making him loopy?
Wow ok. What consequences does he mean?
Vote for him and find out! Risk the consequences!* *I'm fully aware that you're not a US citizen. looks like his chances in the next election just had an accident. What happened to measuring your words before you open your trap anyway?
Because that's just what we need, an opiate addict in the white house.
His State of the Union addresses are him asking where his things are that he's misplaced across Washington D.C. Unintentionally makes the State of the Union into a scavenger hunt.

I hate the guy and everything, but it seems a little petty that it takes him tripping over his words and mispeaking to destroy his election campaign. He got a word wrong, he clearly doesn't actually think it was an accident, we all make that kind of mistake, it shouldn't be his end, his awful, awful politics should be his end.
Probably more of a Freudian slip than an actual mistake
If this was a liberal candidate and fox was covering this I guarantee everyone in this thread would be deriding how dumb it was to make a big deal over such a thing. He even talked about it being a hate crime in that same speech. It's pretty obvious it was just a slip up. [editline]21st June 2015[/editline]
Probably more of a Freudian slip than an actual mistake
How is that? What would it imply?
I don't like Rick Perry, or any of the views that he associates with. But I would've preferred he be knocked out of the race by a major loss in debate, or the wrest of political influence away from him. Losing your campaign due to a freudian slip is just...pathetic. Ah, well. At least nothing of value was lost.
How is that? What would it imply?
I think it would imply he's racially prejudiced
I think it would imply he's racially prejudiced
how does it imply that? [editline]21st June 2015[/editline] that all those deaths where not on purpose?
I hate the guy and everything, but it seems a little petty that it takes him tripping over his words and mispeaking to destroy his election campaign. Problem is there's lots of uneducated voters that latch onto social media fervor to determine who to vote for. It's better that they are influenced by our bullshit than theirs, with the key difference that the Republican party relies on keeping voters uneducated at the same time.
how does it imply that? [editline]21st June 2015[/editline] that all those deaths where not on purpose?
I think because of the implied racial bias (a word I should have used instead of 'prejudice'), Rick Perry had an oopsie during an interview, and called a massacre in which a white kid killed 9 people in a church an accident, instead of an incident. I think it's really silly imo, but people will latch onto any and all faults during a presidential campaign.
could someone explain the significance of 'accident' of 'incident'? i dont understand why its so much worse
Maybe we can see him out of the race early on.
Maybe we can see him out of the race early on.
No, sorry, white people are stuck with him.
could someone explain the significance of 'accident' of 'incident'? i dont understand why its so much worse
You can't see why saying "accident" over "incident" about a shooting is worse? I'm not entirely sure how a person can miss it, but here we go; Claiming a premeditated, racially charged, multiple murder was an "accident" implies so much about it. That it wasn't meant to happen, that the perp never intended to do it, that it could have been prevented with ease, etc. But none of that is really true of the incident. The shooter intended to kill people (specifically, black people) from the get go, prevention of the incident would require some actually meaningful reforms in society to demolish racist ideals fully and maybe some better legislation to make it harder to acquire weapons (like fuck random shooters who look like this chump would not get beat the fuck down at a black market deal). Saying "accident" over "incident" totally undermines the actual harm from the event. Perry surely knows this, but clearly still managed to completely fuck it up.
could someone explain the significance of 'accident' of 'incident'? i dont understand why its so much worse
Accident implies nobody tried to do anything. Like this kid stumbled into the church on accident and his gun randomly started misfiring at everyone in the church on accident. Incident just means something happened, and doesn't imply that no one is at fault.
