• North Korea threatens to turn Seoul and Washington into 'a heap of ashes' as military drills begin
North Korea has threatened nuclear attacks on Seoul and Washington as South Korea and the US began annual military drills on Monday. The North's military has said that it will turn Seoul and Washington into "a heap of ashes through a Korean-style pre-emptive nuclear strike" if they show any signs of aggression toward the North's territory. The extreme rhetoric from Pyongyang comes at a time of high tension. A US plan to place a high-tech defence missile system in South Korea and the defection of a senior North Korean diplomat, Thae Yong Ho, has deeply antagonised the North Korean leadership. Now, state media in Pyongyang have warned the country's "first-strike" units are ready to mount retaliatory attacks on South Korean and US forces involved in the drills. South Korea's Unification Ministry expressed strong regret over the North's warning, saying the drills with the US are defensive in nature. Seoul and Washington have repeatedly said they have no intention of invading Pyongyang. This year's manoeuvres, known as Ulchi Freedom Guardian, began on Monday for a 12-day run and are largely computer-simulated war games. The training involves 25,000 American troops and 50,000 South Korean soldiers.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/north-korea-nuclear-attack-threat-south-korea-us-military-drills-begin-a7203361.html We need to designate an annual "North Korea threatens everyone" season
Every time I see one of these headlines a small part of my brain just goes off screaming "JUST LAUNCH THEM ALREADY SO WE CAN REACT" Like I do not doubt for a moment that when NK launches any sort of real missile out of their silos that we will demolish it before it ever exits their soil and then we have a reason to go in and wipe the floor with them.
Wtf does korean style even means? Your missiles being intercepted then your puny gov squashed in a fierce nuclear fire ball? Fuck, it must suck to be the guy on the nk nuclear silo
This is like a chihuahua trying to grit its teeth like a pit-bull.
Not to be edgy and contrarian but does no one find it a little concerning (for lack a better word) that people legitimately hope North Korea will attack (killing many innocent people) just so they can live out their blood fantasy of watching nk get retaliated on (thus killing many more innocent people?)

Considering North Korea has no technology to make nuclear missiles, I think they're kinda full of shit.
Korean-style pre-emptive nuclear strike
Korean-style meaning it's going to hit the middle of the ocean 50 miles off NK's coast and fail to detonate

It's not something we can just keep brushing off like we have.
They can be salty all they want, one day their government will collapse in on itself and their peoole will finally be free from the famine and policing they've been suffering for decades. Yeah, to us North Korea is a joke, but there are real people suffering within its borders.

So they can only air drop a nuclear bomb with a strategic bomber, which would be immediately be shot down off the sky. Other way is to put it in a truck and go suicide bomber with a nuke, but that would only happen deep inside NK territory.
Is it possible for North Korea to have snuck a russian snuke into the US? That's the only way I can see them nuking DC aside from gross incompetence and corruption
Is it possible for North Korea to have snuck a russian snuke into the US? That's the only way I can see them nuking DC aside from gross incompetence and corruption
Russia would never do such idiotic move.
Considering that apparently a friend in the family may have some very sane relatives in NK, I say "Hold off the bombs, you Edgelords!"

There are far too many environmental dangers that would create, and we know full well that the majority of the population has no real say in what they do or how they live. Kinda like how we haven't turned Iraq and Afghanistan into a smoldering crater.
Once you do you'll be criticized for being the world police No matter what you do you lose
Well then maybe we SHOULD have a fucking world police would that really be so bad. Isn't that what NATO and the UN are meant to be. Shouldn't someone be doing SOMETHING - edit - Sorry that may have come off a bit hostile I just really don't like NK and what they are.
Well then maybe we SHOULD have a fucking world police would that really be so bad. Isn't that what NATO and the UN are meant to be.
NATO is a defensive alliance and the UN is basically there to keep dialogue between powerful nations open to prevent them from attempting conflict resolution through bloodshed unnecessarily. Both are meant as a balance of power, and neither's ultimate goal would fit along the idea of being world police. And the superpower nations that would actually be able to perform the role as "world police" have nothing to gain from doing so, and the less powerful stable nations have nothing to gain by pressuring them into it, not to mention the major players in the UN itself would obviously be opposed to such propositions because it would make them redundant. The thing to remember here is that NK is politically tied to China and through being tied with China, they're tied to Russia. China exploits NK for profit and to help prevent ideas that could challenge their political system from entering through their southern border. Any attack on NK will cause a retaliation from China, if not directly then via proxy in the NK. NK is all bark and no bite regardless, believe it or not they're not stupid, they don't want an actual war with anyone else, they know they would lose. They use the perceived state of being at war as a propaganda tool to keep their citizens from rising against them, under the assumption that once they win the war things will get better. And of course their citizens have no idea that there's no war being fought to actually win.
Russia would never do such idiotic move.
I don't think the russian government would let go of any of its nukes but it's possible something got stolen after the fall of the berlin wall like in Tom Clancy novels
You can't even turn the see to ash NK... I don't know how China doesn't just goes "Oh my god, just fucking shut UP! Just SHUT UP, you FUCKIN' idiot!... GOD you're stupid!" NK is that one guy who acts tough, who intimidates everyone, then gets punched in the face once, and threats to call all his homies, who never ever come to his aid.

They're developing shit, even if it's slowly, and some day they're going to do something that catches everyone by surprise because we've been too used to laughing at them for the better part of 60 years.
their leader is delusional. the more they try oppress their people, the larger the chance of an uprising in the near future

They do this every year when these exercises go on, I don't even really consider this to be news anymore because you know they're going to sit there and wave their duck around, and then nothing will actually happen because they know damn right that if it did they'd get right fucked.
reminder that they do this every time they need supplies. it happened when they pointed their "missiles" at guam not too long ago.

A ground base detonation would result in short term damage and would very likely result in a large military response from South Korea and it's allies. The whole point of ballistic missiles is to cause major damage to civilian/military targets and severely weaken defensive capabilities to the point that strategic bombers can roll in and wipe anything else of importance. Point is NK has a lot of ground to cover before they can play ball. If you can't go full throttle then don't bother because you will lose.

I understand media censorship is rampart and knowledge about the west is rare over there, but does the average citizen have any idea of what the world is like outside of NK?
