Dressed in his own Army Combat Uniform and boots, 8-year-old Eleck Stone will never forget the time he spent this week with the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning. Eleck, who has cystic fibrosis, was granted a two-day visit with the elite soldiers through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Although cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs and digestive system, Eleck joined the Rangers on Thursday and Friday to fire weapons, wear night-vision equipment on a raid, ride in vehicles and take part in other activities. ---- “I love Rangers,” Eleck said during a break. He was accompanied on the trip by his parents, Kimberly and Troy Stone, and younger brother, Bryce. Kimberly can’t pinpoint when her son became interested in the Rangers, but she noted that he loves to read and had a moving conversation with his grandfather, a Vietnam War veteran.
Source Having the title of 'Ranger' is always badass.
Good for him.

Who knows in his lifetime they'll have developed a working retroviral gene therapy, I mean we already know the cure its just packaging it right
Well there's my heartwarming story for the day.
Shit man, that article brought some tears.
I wonder if the 'vehicles' were just humvees and MP patrol cars or if he got to ride in any AFVs. If I was the CO I'd do my best to get the kid a ride in a tank, even if it was just an old milsurp M60 Patton.
Why the fuck are their hands in their pockets?
Better question, why are they wearing NVG's during the day.
It's a respect thing, I assume you wouldn't know jack about that.

Because they're kids?
Since neither of you understood what we were talking about. Yes, we're all aware they are kids and it's forgivable. Hands in pockets is considered throughout the military to be extremely poor military bearing and disrespectful in some cases. It's a big no no in the US military, at least in front of SNCOs and officers, I'm an NCO and around my junior guys I really don't give a fuck, hell I do it too sometimes. But having your hands in your pockets in the open is a easy way to get knife-handed by an E-8 or E-9, partially due to the fact that E-8/E-9 have nothing better to fucking do at that rank. Which is why we joke, because the kids are in full uniform with rank, but hey it could always be worse at least they're wearing their covers. I think terminal lance does a good job of explaining this. Hell, if I was the ranger talking to him I'd play into it. "Hey, you both need to get your hands out of your pockets before Master Sargent sees you, Smith here just got NJP'd for his 2nd DUI this month and we're trying to fly under the radar right now, alright?"
does cystic fibrosis come in degrees of severity? a friend of a friend who i see every so often has it, and while he permanently sounds like he has smoker's cough hes mid-late 20s now and seems healthy most other respects. but then i hear of stories of kids thats are like 14 and are severely affected. not sure if he has been doing any kinds of treatments or experimental treatments, i dont really know much about the disease, but it was to my understanding that the issue with it is that it becomes progressively harder to breath because of the scar tissue build up of constant coughing.
