The Games organising committee said there were too many doubts over the emblem for it to be used. A Belgian artist had complained that his design was stolen.
Logo designer Kenjiro Sano had admitted copying online material for a previous project, Japanese media reported.

The logo was unveiled only last month, based around the letter T and a red circle representing a beating heart - which critics said resembled the Japanese flag.

Belgian designer Olivier Debie claimed that the design was similar to his 2013 logo for the Theatre de Liege. He and the theatre had filed a lawsuit to prevent it being used.

Mr Debie expressed surprise at the organisers' decision on Tuesday as they had publicly backed the design only days earlier.
He told BBC Radio 5 live: "I thought the Olympic committee was a big machine and I didn't dare to take action against them."
But the director of the Theatre de Liege had told him they had to "do something" and they sought the help of good copyright lawyers.
He said the logo, devised in 2011, had been official for two years and would have been available on sites like Pinterest around the world.

"I want Mr Sano to provide an explanation. I feel like we have been betrayed," said Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe.
Someone's screwed. They were REALLY proud of it when I was there. The Metropolitan Complex had it plastered everywhere.
Fire "Mr Sano" and hire the Belgian designer.
Maybe they can take out the bottom right corner, would that be good enough? It'll look more like a T for Tokyo anyways.
Didn't know Tokyo was hosting 2020, hopefully its good. I can't imagine Rio will be too spectacular
what's wrong with rio?

Massively polluted waters is one thing I heard.

They promised to have the water totally cleaned up for the Olympics, but they didn't do it in time and it's now too late

It will be spectacularly disastrous, I am looking towards it more than the previous ones.

Tbh the water is one of the smaller issues I think.

Well... it's Brazil.
Well, the logo was very shitty in the first place. Usually sport events have fun colorful logos, and that one looked like a... video cassette manufacturer logo.

Though people said that about their world cup too and it turned out fine.
Looks like shit anyways.
They can do better.

olympics is a far bigger project and their infrastructure was already better in place for football

That's Brazil summed up :v:
Seriously though that is so basic it could be accident.
Shit logo anyway.

I hope you're being sarcastic. The colours and shapes are exactly the same, I'm pretty certain the planets and moons would all have to be aligned for it to be coincidence.

Okay never mind, I'm blind. For some reason I thought the yellow and grey were in there, too.
