Officials in Shanghai will now be able to proceed with detailed discussions with Disney on how to take the project forward. The deal represents a significant milestone for Disney in its efforts to get the park built. Disney has been working on this for more than a decade. The company had agreed the framework for the deal to build the theme park in Shanghai with the local government here, but it needed Beijing's approval. This was the biggest hurdle the company had to clear, so the fact that they have achieved it means the park is all but certain to be built. A final agreement will not be far off. Disney hopes to open the new Shanghai Disneyland by 2014.
Disneys conquering new territory.

Well, yeah. That's where the new middle class that can afford to take their kids to Disneyland is emerging, so it's logical for them to set up shop there.
I recall China already having a Disneyland, guess i was wrong.
I recall China already having a Disneyland, guess i was wrong.
It's in Hong Kong.
It will be hard getting the children going there since they're used to not having fun and prefer working as slaves.
They won't have trouble filling positions for the small world ride.
Nothing personal Waals Vander but this news story isn't interesting at all
It's in Hong Kong.
I'm still adamant that Hong Kong is not China. >:C [editline]03:25PM[/editline] even though the facts stare at me
Hong Kong isn't part of China, that's why they call it Hong Kong SAR.
I thought England gave up ownership of HK and it went to China's control (communist) in recent years
I thought England gave up ownership of HK and it went to China's control (communist) in recent years
No, Hong Kong's meant to be not Chinese for a while longer. Pretty good news, seeing as it's where I live.
Hong Kong isn't part of China, that's why they call it Hong Kong SAR.
You're 12 years late I'm afraid. The British gave it back in 1997. (I'm pretty sure anyway.) But Asia already has a Disneyland. Shouldn't the Disney Empire turn their eyes to another continent? Like Australia? EDIT: Seems like I was misinformed. I'll trust the person who lives in HK to know more about his city than I do.
Capitalism 1 Communism 0
Hong Kong have a different system.
If I was Disney I wouldn't do it. given China's safety record and all, Disney is going to be held accountable for a lot of easily preventable accidents

Don't be surprised if you wake and hear on CNN; "Disney land actors/actresses held hostage by Chinese rebels"

FUCK just make disneyland and disneyworld even better. Even though they already are, they should do MORE. They have so much room in Disney World (though most of it is wildlife reserve) They should finish the "mythology" part of Animal Kingdom I reckon.
I bet Goofy will be on the menu in every restaurant.
who the hell would want to go to disneyland in mongolia anyways
Hong Kong isn't part of China, that's why they call it Hong Kong SAR.
more like SARS
The Hong Kong Disneyland isn't doing that great so I don't expect this one to do well either unless it's a lot larger than the ones we have already.
I guess you could say Disney has... Shanghai'd them. Edit: My god that works well with my avatar.
I flied out of Shanghai yesterday. Coincidence?
I flied out of Shanghai yesterday. Coincidence?
I think not. :raise: What were you doing in Shanghai?
Also China is horrible if you're white, All of the hispanic immigrant fucks persuade me to buy their fake Ipods or Rollexes, If I follow them they try to take me to some flat. I already tried every insult I know for them to fuck off, From "No, thank you" to "Burn In Hell" to "Eat Shit And Die". [editline]06:38AM[/editline]
I think not. :raise: What were you doing in Shanghai?
My mom had a conference there, She's a doctor that saves lives.
PR Stunt. That disneyland will be a massive sweatshop with chinese government portraying as not.
The Disneyland in Hong Kong is shit, it took me an hour to get there by train, then we had problems with the tickets, the queues were incredibly long. And all the rides were shit, fast past was shit, and the only decent thing there is Space Mountain, which wasn't that good anyway. In other words, it was terrible.
