U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday he is only in the early stages of considering whether to lift U.S. sanctions on Russia, as British Prime Minister Theresa May, other foreign officials and lawmakers at home voiced concerns that such a move would be premature. With Trump expected to speak on Saturday with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time since taking power a week ago, speculation has been rife that Trump is close to lifting sanctions imposed on Russia by then-President Barack Obama over Moscow's annexation of Ukraine's Crimea Peninsula in 2014. Such a move would likely cause consternation among European allies as well as many in the U.S. Congress who are also troubled by Russia's intervention in the Syrian civil war and by the finding by U.S. intelligence agencies that Moscow meddled in the U.S. election campaign. "As far as the sanctions, (it is) very early to be talking about that," Trump said, while insisting he wanted to follow through on his campaign pledge to pursue better relations with Russia. Trump's caution on the Russian sanctions came in response to a question at a joint news conference at the White House with British Prime Minister Theresa May, the first foreign leader to visit the president since his inauguration. At the news conference, May made clear Britain wants to continue sanctions until Putin carries out the requirements in a ceasefire agreement arranged in Minsk, Belarus in 2014. This view is shared European allies who fear Putin could become more expansionist if he feels Trump will not intervene.
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-britain-idUSKBN15B104
Slow and Steady, Donny...
Best of pals
I guess this year is the political equivalent of "you nutted but trump keep suckin'" for Putin.
Putin pretty much played the world and won. I don't see anyone stopping his country's rise to power, especially since he's actually gotten a moronic lapdog in charge of the most powerful country in the world.
The press conference with May & Trump gave me some hope that he will hold Russia to some sort of standards... maybe.
I can only assume the only reason they haven't been lifted is because literally everyone in the room including Pence is telling him it would be a bad idea. It's really an inevitability at this point regardless of whether or not Russia agrees to terms.

I don't think McCain is for it..

This is pretty huge. Back when the Goldengate report was released on Buzzfeed I remember thinking that since the allegations were unconfirmed, the best way to determine if the report was legit was to watch and see if Trump began behaving in the way the report predicted. And lifting sanctions on Russia over Ukraine was at the top of the prediction list. Trump confirmed to be a blackmailed Russian puppet looks like...
Trump maybe might but he's not too sure about considering lifting sanctions on Russia? I'll start to give a damn when he doesn't sound so wishy washy.
On the possibility of Trump being a Russian asset, I find it curious that only six days after his administration took power and he obtained unfettered Top Secret security clearance, an American spy was arrested in Russia on charges of treason - one of the same spies that had relayed information to the US govt about Russia's role in the 2016 government and DNC/RNC hacks. Of course, that's pure speculation and could have a hundred other explanations.

That would be an eerie coincidence...
Wait, is it confirmed that the agent who was arrested also passed information relating to the hacks? But he was embedded with a cybersecurity company with connections to the Russian government, and there were details in the article about him sending information on their activities.
