It's war!
Earlier today we noted how the Swiss bank Switzerland Post Finance (a bank associated with the Swiss post office) had frozen Julian Assange's bank account for his defense fund.
Well, payback.
As NYT reports, their site has now been taken offline, and a group calling itself Operation Payback on Twitter claims credit for the DDOS.

That's hilarious.
Owned.
Oh wow
Sure is getting pretty shitty.
I want key
Good, they had no reason to freeze his account.
yawn some 13 year olds that think Assange is a gift from god and is their "hero"
Everyone is flipping out over this guy, even when he did nothing to their country. They totally had it coming.
Talk about payback.
Silly children, doing this ain't going to change anything.

It's Anonymous, they're just doing this for the "lulz".

They did it for the media attention. It's a blatant show of support for Julian Assange and everything Wikileaks stands for. There's really nothing pointless about it when you look at it from that perspective.

So they're support the release of mundane information, that will make no change to the socio-political climate, by committing internet vandalism? Sounds pretty pointless to me.
"They call themselves Anonymous, their hackers on steroids..."
Its times like these when i love the internet... :allears:
That's alot of bullshit...
Post finance isn't a bank!
DDOS = PORFESUNOL HAKS
Really.

look at it this way
it's marginally less pointless than most other acts of internet vigilantism

:colbert:
Payback is a bitch
snip
It's apart of Operation Payback that originally started as a retaliatory attack on anti-piracy sites that DDOS'd thepiratebay a while back.
It's branched out to Wikileaks as well now seeing as though they see it as freedom of speech that must be protected.
Well, thats what happens when you fuck with WikiLeaks.

Because you can sum up a batch of over 250,000 documents by skimming the released 1,000 or so.

Well, you try to take that website down then, mister professional.

You're right, I can; All cablegate is just a bunch of conversations between diplomats. Which, once again, are pointless to leak, as they contain no valuable information on corruption. Also, the total is around seven thousand, now.
with irrational acts like these we'll have doomsday before Assange's insurance arrives
hooray
At first I was pissed because I thought they meant Visa or something. Bringing down a major financial center's servers would be disastrous.

hurr durr all wikileaks has released are political cables
These DDoSers are retarded. The bank terminated the account because Assange didn't have a swiss address/some other paperwork technicality. They're giving him his money back. This isn't like Paypal where they up and seized sixty thousand euro.
hehehe, payback. get it?
It's not about methods, it's about results. Who cares if a fire is started by either gas and a match, or jet fuel? Point is, a building still burns.
That's an analogy by the way, in case anyone is wondering. It's just showing that it doesn't matter if it's DDOS or something more complex. (I'm also not advocating anything either)

so the end justifies the means
yup
