• Can We Just Stop Trying to Convert/Convince People?

Seriously, can't we see it goes nowhere? After reading this thread: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=842897 , I realized how stupid these futile arguments have become. Not only was the thread de-railed with arguments over the death penalty, but the the posts people were making were obviously not going anywhere. 2 sides obviously formed and both put up arguments that weren't convincing anybody. I think we need to step back and realize that people are fim on their belief and they're not going to change their mind, let alone based on an argument presented on an internet forum. Do you really think you're going to change somebodys religion over the internet? A lot of these arguments come to mind, the death penalty being just one of them. Other popular ones are: -Athism vs. Religion -PC vs. Mac -This gaming console vs. That gaming console -Dogs vs. Cats -Much much more All I'm trying to say is, maybe we need to find some less heated/futile things to post. Maybe let one person post their side of the argument, and use the rating system to get your point across.
but they are wrong.
But this forum would be boring as hell if we just agreed to settle our differences.
You forgot one important thing on that list. -Religion I'm blind.
But my opinion is superior to theirs.
You forgot one important thing on that list. -Religion I'm blind.
Dun Dun Dunnnnn
Yeah, let's just let bad stuff happen in the world, no point trying to stop it.
But Mac's are better.......
Alternatively we could just use this A more mature approach I feel.
Op
Aren't you trying to convince us to stop trying to convince each other?
Yeah, let's just let bad stuff happen in the world, no point trying to stop it.
The point is, you're not going to stop anything, and people are getting angry at each other over your attempts.
This is Facepunch. And while I somewhat agree with you, there are nothing but 14-20 year old boys on here who most of the time, have nothing better to do. :v: Yeah.
I ahte it when people act like... 'Fucking religious people, all they do is shove their beliefs in your face, why can't they realise the truth and just accept that there is no god? Fucking idiots'

Can We Stop Trying To Tell People To Stop Telling Other People To Convert/Convince People?
This is Facepunch. I seriously get sick of the childish arguments on Facepunch. It's not the fact that they aren't needed it's just sometimes they get so bone dry of originality that it will usually be the following... 1. Furries vs Non-Furries 2. Mac Users vs Window Users 3. Religious Bystanders vs Non-Religious Bystanders 4. People who like anime vs people who don't. 5. TnB vs Every other RP 6. Slob187/Chrisaster vs Dark RP 7.... You get the fucking point. It eventually gets bone dry of originality and drives a bunch of nails into people's skulls.
No dice. Just don't be so serious on the interwebs when it's not necessary. How would the General Discussion part of FP work if there where no reason to discuss something because everyone agrees? However if that happens in sections like the mapping one, then it's obviously just stupid trolling which as far as I know is something most get banned for.
Why thank you for that edit. :3
Aren't you trying to convince us to stop trying to convince each other?
I was going to come in and say that. Damn you. [editline]EDIT[/editline] Seriously though, OP is right to a certain degree. I prefer to just shut up during those sorts of arguments. You make less enemies that way.
The only reason there's argument over it is because some people aren't always willing to contribute their opinions peacefully. If everyone was neutral we wouldn't have new ideas or changes (positive or negative) in the world. But that's just my opinion personally.
It's the french arrogance, it's infectious! (it's not generalizing, it's true fact)
bone dry of originality

1. Furries vs Non-Furries 2. Mac Users vs Window Users 3. Religious Bystanders vs Non-Religious Bystanders 4. Umm, OP, what are you talking about. I am going to try and convince people of my point so that they don't vote for stuff I don't want. It's common sense. I'm not doing it to be an ass (for the most part), I just don't want you assholes voting for shit that I think is wrong. As for the Mac vs PC and PC vs Console debates, the more fans people can make of one system, the better it is for that system, and the person making the argument.
Vegetarian vs bacon lovers.

Conna's "RP" vs. everything else 10. Death penalty vs Non-death penalty It can get annoying sometimes, but I believe people do it because they think they're view on a specific issue is the Supreme Answer to Everything, and, therefore, must be unanimously accepted by everyone. These arguments happen everywhere though. TVTropes calls it the Internet Backdraft. On other Internet forums, I regurally see debates over which edition of a specific role-playing game or wargame is better (D&D 3.5 vs 4, Warhammer 40k vs Warhammer Fantasy), which language has better semantics, and I've even seen a 500-post debate over Volapük (a dead international auxiliary language) and how it's so much better than Esperanto (if that were true, Volapük wouldn't be DEAD)
99. Red Team vs Blue Team

A friend of mine was converted by him, he's just as crazy as the other guy is now, and when another buddy got in the car with those two, the first thing the crazy fucker did was hop forward so he was leaning over the passenger seat, tapped him in the shoulder and said "So, I heard you don't believe in god, eh!" You can imagine where it went from there.

That's really all there is to it.
Debates about furries, anime, roleplaying games, and cats and dogs have nothing to do with how our country is run.
Read the second part of my post. If there is an argument about role playing games, perhaps the argument will draw fans to the specific games being discussed and create a larger fan base for said game. Cats and Dogs, maybe someone will decide on whether to get a dog or a cat. Which anime to watch, or whether to watch anime at all. Plus, arguments let you know who is on your side, and can be sort of a bonding experience of the sorts. Plus, they're damned entertaining.
