This Is What Happens When You Joke About Having Ebola On An Airplane
A U.S. Airways flight from Philadelphia to Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic, was held after landing yesterday when a passenger made a joke about having been to Africa, and informing his fellow passengers that he had Ebola. This prompted a squad of hazmat-clad officials to remove the man from the plane. He tested negative for Ebola, and has never been to Africa.
common sense has failed this one
"Jokes on them, I was just pretending to be [del]retarded[/del] infected."
People who joke around like this are some of the worst, they either downplay the seriousness of the current crisis or they just spread needless panic.
What a dumb ass
Two things:
1)That person is an ass.
2)Everyone on board pulled out their phone to take a picture/video.

It's kinda sad that they've needed to put signs up in airport checkpoints that say "don't make jokes"
i hope he gets fined or something for causing needless panic and wasting resource's what an arsehole
Well, I don't blame anyone for the response. Better safe than sorry, especially in this situation and I'm glad to see that the suspicion of a contagious passenger was responded too by professionals with proper equipment.
Hey asshole, jokes are supposed to be funny.
Escorting people of a plane like that is actually kind of useless in the end, because those passengers who actually have ebola won't brag about it, and thus won't get thrown off.

I don't understand what you're trying to get at? There are a dozen other reasons someone may have to be escorted off a plane like this, admittance to contracting ebola or not.
Like if someone were to become violently ill or die during the flight. So this entire procedure is far from useless.
The assumption that passengers with ebola would never admit it is wrong too. It's unlikely they would, but not impossible. Whoever was in charge of the situation upon hearing the rumor "someone on this flight says they have ebola and have visited Africa" what's the appropriate response? "Oh, he must be joking no one would ever admit to having ebola. Disregard this case"? They have to respond to every situation, no matter what.
Just like someone yelling "bomb" on an airplane. Yeah, they may be joking but what if one day they aren't and you ignored it and hundreds of people die as a result?
Imagine the panic on the bus when I go city centre and someone starts coughing.
It'll take just one crazy ill-informed person to shout "oh my god ebola" and everyone panics.
Someone took this post seriously
why would you willingly read youtube comments
It is a cucumber thing, you wouldn't understand.
reminds me of when i was a 12 year old kid in an airport talking loudly about "RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS?? WHY WOULD ANYONE HAVE RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS ON THEM IN AN AIRPORT??" while standing in line at security in a foreign country because i was a 12 year old kid (therefore dumb as fuck). i was then randomly selected to be searched
the guy probably shit himself when the hazmat dudes came in
which probably made it even worse

Yeah, "randomly" - My brother gets searched a lot in airports because he looks like a stoner, each time it's "random" selection.

why they thought a doofy looking fat glassesed fanny-pack wearing 12 year old would actually have radioactive materials i don't know but the US ambassador who sat with me as they searched me was pretty cool
Random searches are just covers so they have a defense for anyone that tries to prove they racially profile for the searches. "Of course we didn't search you just because you are from the Middle East, we do "random" searches here."
Wait, if that guy screamed that he has Ebola, why didn't anyone restraint him and throw him into the toilet? I mean, after all, if you're gonna take precautions and wait for hazmat suit guys to come in, don't you want to minimize the risk of getting infected?
I may not know how this works, so this is just a thought.

I don't think you should touch anyone with Ebola.

Personally I would stay as far away from anyone with Ebola as possible, as direct contact is the main method of transmission (as opposed to aerosol transmission).
I don't think you should touch anyone with Ebola.
Then shouldn't all the passengers like spread out around the guy who screamed it instead?
I don't think you should touch anyone with Ebola.
Pretty sure you could only get infected if the guy started bleeding/shitting/peeing everywhere dude :v:
I feel bad for the hazmat guys. They look silly in those suits, and I would imagine it makes it worse since everyone's pulling out their phones to record or take pictures.
Doesn't matter if they have masks, if I was one of those dude I'd feel awkward about it.

Or spit on everyone

Still, I wouldn't ever risk it.
