CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
A teen in north suburban Zion is in jail, accused of making a threat over the Zimmerman trial.
Police say the 15-year-old tweeted: "If Zimmerman leaves free Imma shoot everybody in Zion causing a mass homicide, an I'll git away wit it just like Zimmerman."
Several people saw the tweet and reported it to police, and the FBI.
The suspect, who is a student at Zion Benton Township High School, is charged with a felony.

We'll be seeing alot of these stories.
I'l never understand morons using dumbass social media sites to spew their retarded thoughts.
That's not how self defense works, kid.

He was a dickhead.
Rate it winner all you like but its still stupid as fuck that he was arrested and charged, it the same sort of sarky comment that another kid made about how he was gonna kill babys or something.
Incoming $500,000 bond for bail

He chose a direct target (Zimmerman) and said he would shoot up Zion (A specific place)
The comment he made is crossing the line a little bit if you ask me.
Also lol he's in Chicago. How's he going to get a gun to do it?
Zion is 50 miles north of Chicago and is immediately next to the Wisconsin border. This isn't a Chicago thing and don't make it out as one.

What this guy did? Utterly fucking stupid. But you can't arrest everyone that makes a dumb comment on the internet.
The cops should've told the parents and have them do something or another, perhaps ask about it or so forth, not just immediately get a warrant and arrest the guy for an asshole comment. If anything, going for an arrest could be a considerable risk to the police for completely different reasons than the subject matter.
He wants to try and kill everybody in Zion? Well I hate to break it to you kid, but people have trying that for thousands of years.
Noooo kid, you are suppose to stalk them and start a fight with them first, then shoot them and finally blame it fon the victim.
That way it's ~self defense~
4chan thread linked in the OP - gold.

"i can't prove my points at all so i stay out the zimmerman threads"
The world is once again safe thanks to the 4chan Internet Police. :rolleye:
It's amazing that I can remember a time when you could post shit like this on a bulletin board; it would be ignored and nothing would actually happen. I think it's also quite safe to say that the people with real intentions aren't going to be dumb enough to talk about it before they do it.

Mass Debate
Wait why are people rating this post winner when the guy who got arrested for posting threats in League of Legends got rated dumb. Double standards.
Context is always a major factor in cases like these. His comments were stupid and immature and he's lucky he's not being charged for making a terrorist threat, and only being charged with disorderly conduct, which I think is a much more appropriate charge.

The one was dumb because it came from LoL...and isnt raged by what authorities everywhere are trying to prevent: A riot.

Not really. One was a snarky comment made to a friend, and this is a threat regarding a high profile case on a public forum.
I saw this on the /pol/ thread that was tracking the events (I swear I don't go there regularly)
Called up his school and they sounded really thankful.

Suspect confirmed by police to be the Architect of the Matrix

Because this kid is legit threatening to kill people, and the other is a sarcastic comment.
He didn't go "ooh yeah, because if this case aquits him I'm TOTALLY gonna shoot up a school or something", he said "I am going to commit mass homicide at X location and X time and get away with it"
What this guy did? Utterly fucking stupid. But you can't arrest everyone that makes a dumb comment on the internet.
You don't have to arrest everyone, just a few to make the point. It's like cops giving out speeding tickets, not everyone who speeds gets one. The authorities have seen, in things like the Arab spring, what social media can do as far as helping to incite and organize violence. The last thing they will allow is people to start posting incitement to violence with no worry of legal consequences.
So if they start busting a few people here and there, the message gets delivered, keep posting cat pictures and stop with the death threats.
They're (this and the LoL case) two very different cases. This is a genuinely concerning threat because it's unclear whether or not it's sarcasm, but the high-profile nature of the case makes it very plausible that it could be serious. The other was clearly intended as banter, however dark it was, and there was really no risk of him following through with his threats.

Really I think we should just stop joking about killing people
If his Twitter page is still up, run a wget job on it immediately.
It's pretty spurgy

except the other guy made it sound so exaggerated that you couldn't possibly take it seriously, but this one sounds so neutral that you can't know for sure whether he's serious or not.

I'm definitely not saying that actually arresting him was a good idea, they shouldn't have done something so drastic. But not taking any action could be pretty risky.

I dunno, setting examples, even in a case where the context of this guy's comment was very iffy, can often bring up its own ugly can of worms. But you've got a point. It just disturbs me to even consider that option in this scenario...
