Legal question about school? Are they overstepping boundaries?

Yep, I don't know any lawyers and I am just curious about this new "rule" they enforced.
Get caught with phone out, take it for 2 hours.
Get caught 2nd time, they take it for 1 day.
Get caught a 3rd time, They take it for 30 days, And after that I'm not sure how long they take it.
Now this is spread over a period of 180 days, so if I have it out the 2nd day, and 2 more times over that, they take it for 30 days.
My question is it legal for them to take the cell phone for that long of a period of time, considering I bought my phone, and work to pay for the monthly plan?
Just curious.
Just get your parents to request your phone back
Yeah I think the 30 days is a bit harsh, in our school if you get caught with phone, the official rule is you have to get one of your parents to pick it up, but you can usually persuade most of the teachers to give it back at the end of class.
They don't allow any interference with their rules, and it is a public state funded school, not a private school.

Just pay attention and stop fucking with your phone. You're in class for 6 hours a day, goddamn.
Just be patient and leave your phone in your pocket or at home.
I get on perfectly well without a mobile phone.
My school suspends you for a day if they see any sort of electronic device at all.
No, the laws that allow administrators to confiscate contraband are similar to the laws that allow the TSA to confiscate items of interest.
The way to prevent this, don't bring contraband out into view.

I do pay attention, I maintain A's in all my classes, and am doubling up on math, and my GPA is fine.
I usually text or call to figure out how to get rides, as I am on the cross country team and swim team, and my parents aren't really active in any part of my life to give me rides.
And only an idiot replies with hostility to get his points across, You don't have to be a prick to get your opinion out.
Chances are you signed something at the beginning of the year agreeing to not use your cellphone or it will be confiscated. However, regardless of any implied or express policy, the phone needs to be returned "immediately" (end of day), but your parents would probably need to be present.
Teachers probably won't enforce it strictly.
Is it really necessary to use your phone during school?
Teacjers have a heart they wont really go through with it..well most
Dont have your phone out in class?

Calculators and computers?
Is it really necessary to use your phone during school?
When I have to figure out how to get home, and to 2 separate hour and a half long practices, it is necessary
Mine works like this:
1st offense - taken until the end of the day
2nd offense - taken for either a month (i think)
3rd offense - taken until the end of the school year
Calculators and computers?
Calculators are fine, but if you bring a computer to school I am pretty sure that they will suspend you.
The answer is don't use your phone in class.
Buy a carrier pigeon, then let them choose the lesser of two evils.

I'm just sick of hearing about how kids can't put their goddamn phones down for two seconds.
Some retard I know spent $300 on a phone and then racked up a $280 phone bill. Really? That's what you work minimum wage for, so you can just pay for a phone?
Haha bullshit, if we get caught with a phone it gets taken away for 30 days. Get caught again and it gets taken away for 60 days. Third, 90.
The fourth time you get permanently prohibited from possessing and using the cell phone on school grounds. If you are prohibited and bring/use one anyway, you get expelled.

How about how I am sick and tired of people telling me how to live my life?
You don't know how often I use my phone, so its idiotic for you to guess and assume that you do.
You don't know what I spend my paycheck on, and its ignorant of you to assume you do.
I payed for my phone, and my plan. Its my choice, Not yours.

Reminds me of:
"Why do you have a car?"
"So I can get to my job."
"Why do you have a job?"
"So I can pay for my car."
My school teachers just give it back at the end of class if they see you using it.
Seeing as phone is a "privacy" item and can contain a lot of private or required info, it shouldn't be allowed to take it for more than a day.
What if I am expecting a call from someone important but my phone is in school for 30 days? WTF
my school took my calculator off me because you could play tetris on it. passed the time easily in exams.

I was just using that as an example of why I'm sick of hearing about it.
When you're in school, leave it in your locker, or put it on silent mode in your bag or it's going to get taken away. It's simple. Use it before school, between classes, at lunch, or after school. How long does it take to carbon copy a text for a ride?
The answer is don't your phone in class.
Yeah, I never my phone in class either.

Then you shouldn't have been using it and/or been caught during class or other times when the phone is prohibited.
