Seattle, WA: Event organizers are expecting to break attendance records this weekend for the 21st annual Seattle Hempfest, taking place this Friday through Sunday at Myrtle Edwards Park along the downtown Seattle waterfront. Hempfest has drawn crowds in excesses of 250,000 people over the three day ‘protestival’. One of the main focuses of this year Hempfest is Washington’s legalization voter initiative, Initiative 502. Washington is one of three states this fall where voters have the opportunity to substantively reform their state’s cannabis laws, effectively ending cannabis prohibition. Oregon and Colorado voters also have legalization ballots this fall. Over 60 musical acts and over one hundred speakers — including NORML Founder Keith Stroup, I-502 sponsor, NORML Advisory Board member and travel expert Rick Steves, numerous NORML board members and chapter coordinators, members of Seattle’s City Council, former law enforcement officials and dozens of cannabis law reform activists will participate in the event from numerous stages and at the ‘Hemposium’ educational tent. A list of speakers is found here.
http://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/drug-law/weekend-seattle-earth-s-largest-pro-marijuana-law-reform-rally
This law legalizes the possession of marijuana for adults age 21 and older. The only marijuana that would be legal to sell in this state would be grown by specially-licensed Washington farmers and sold in standalone, marijuana-only stores operated by private Washington businesses licensed and regulated by the state. There would be a 25% sales tax, with 40% of the new revenues going to the state general fund and local budgets, and the remainder dedicated to substance-abuse prevention, research, education and health care. Advertising would be restricted. A new marijuana DUI standard that operates like the alcohol DUI standard would be established.
well I-502 gets my vote
"Thousands gather, absolutely nothing happens"
This is a perfect opportunity to get my 4/20 t-shirt business off the ground.
"Thousands gather, absolutely nothing happens"
"Crime-rate plummets as Seattle is engulfed with smoke."
They would make a banner out of hemp with a slogan written on it, but it would probably fall apart.
They would make a banner out of hemp with a slogan written on it, but it would probably fall apart.
Or they would smoke it before the rally actually happened.
"Crime-rate plummets as Seattle is engulfed with smoke."
It's still illegal, so technically it would be "Crime-rate skyrockets"
"Food shortages emerge as people suddenly begin consuming 5 times as much food."
Gas station stores are making a killing but cannot keep up with their supply of doritos and twinkies.
"Food shortages emerge as people suddenly begin consuming 5 times as much food."
Fast food places like McDonalds should support legalization of pot. I'm sure it'd be great for their profits. :v:
everyone will be too high to remember to show up
Gas station stores are making a killing but cannot keep up with their supply of doritos and twinkies.
thousands of starved and high stoners agitated by the twinkie shortage begin forming occupy movements at the pumps.

I love how the title says "Earth's largest", makes me think of the future.

Hopefully it will be legalized, then the wave of legzlation will spread over more and more states until it is legal in amurrica and then it will spread outside too
well I-502 gets my vote
21 and older :|
21 and older :|
Makes the law more likely to pass, as well as preventing problems in the future with high schools.

I thought this was a Seattle thread you bastard!
Holy shit where is that at? That looks delicious and cheap as fuck.
http://eatcookout.com/locations/ It is awesome, the food tastes great and the staff are very polite (it is one of their selling points, they say things like "it would be my pleasure" when you ask for something). You can feed three people for less than ten bucks. Check out their shakes if you ever go to one, they are awesome http://eatcookout.com/menu/
Now I know where I'm going next time I'm stoned and on the East Coast.
Now I know where I'm going next time I'm stoned and on the East Coast.
I can't tell if that's a joke, or if you're stoned and forgot which side Seattle is on. Is it just me or are the people who support weed the same kind of people who support gay marriage? It seems more likely that a state will legalize one if the other already is.

As for his comments the restaurant chain is located in the southeast.

I live like an hour away from Seattle...
21 and older :|
That was my problem at first too, but then I figured "well the only reason cigarettes are at 18 is because you can't get high off tobacco" and decided 21+ isn't that big of a deal.
25% sales tax is way too high, but better than nothing i guess
25% sales tax is way too high, but better than nothing i guess
I'd say it's not high enough
I'd say it's not high enough
people shouldn't have to pay a 25% markup for any product because of the government.
