Holy shit, I would've never recognized him
"If you take medical advice from a Las Vegas magician, you are an idiot and you deserve to die"
I fucking choked, I wasn't prepared for that
That's really interesting. I feel like that diet can be very dangerous if not properly monitored though. I'd like to try it sometime. Good on him for losing all that weight though, he looks fantastic
Oh good, and here I was thinking this guy was getting super skinny from some kind of sickness.
He needs to do something about the skin tho.
now all I need is an interview like this that drastically simplifies GAINING weight
i eat like a fuckin' pig and I'm still rocking that solid 145lbs life right now, real shame

As long as you still take in what you need, no diet can be really dangerous unless you do something stupid like only eat lettuce or something for months on end, he was using potato as a base and doing basically potato meals, avoiding processing them and just having them as they are, boiled, baked and maybe mixed into a salad, you can do baked potatoes with god knows how many fillings and boiled potatoes go with a load of stuff. It's just a base item to set the diet to, as long as protein, the needed vitamins and some needed fats are still taken in you'll be fine, the main goal of that diet is to burn off storage which it does, essentially forcing your body to use more than you take in.
This is actually quite a common thing dietitians suggest, its just sticking to it which is the hard part and not going mental with the suggestions, the other more common suggestion is eat whatever you do currently, but reduce the size of what you eat and anyone who suggests exercise as a way of weight loss is daft as it tells your body to start storing more to help build muscle, you only start exercise after you've hit your target loss as like said, it sets your body back into its routine, you essentially just reset yourself at another weight level, doing it while trying to lose weight is a battle you wont win.
I want him fat again :(
magic magic magic atheism.

I've been limiting myself to 1700 or less calories a day, and it works to an extent, but I wanna know what it would take to be losing 0.9 pounds a day like he said he was at his peak. I don't want to be without energy or motivation by not having any calories at all, but I may try this potato thing for a couple weeks to see if I can lose faster.
My ultimate goal is to, like you said, start gaining muscle after I've lost the excess fat, but I don't want to be waiting for months before I can start lifting weights

For about a year and 4 months I've been on a fairly restrictive diet of 1800 calories, my body requires on average, 2200 to stay at the same weight. After all this time, with very mild exercise worked in, I've lost about 60-70 lbs. I imagine for a while his body was in some form of caloric freefall while trying to sort itself out and I'm very curious to know how that worked for him.
The form of calories you eat can have a large effect on the way your body gains weight, the shitty thing is that it's kind of unique to you. For me, I can enjoy pizza and shit in my diet fairly regularly(as long as I don't eat too much) and my body will still lose the weight all the same because for me, for some reason, pizza just doesn't cause my body to retain the weight the way I imagine it should.
It's all about whatever works for you really.

I know what you mean, this is like the second fat magician I can think of that lost a lot of weight.

Everyone said the same about him in regards to his weight loss...

The thing is 1700 calories doesn't seem like a small amount, like eating normally I end up around 1600-1800 in an average day. I'm not sure if I should further lower my caloric intake, or just change the kind of food I eat.
Calories in calories out truly is magic, I lost about 25 pounds in 3 months doing this and I can eat whatever I want as long as I keep it under a limit.

some research indicates that having certain kinds of intestinal parasites is beneficial to our immune systems as we coevolved together. it is only very recently that we've perfected methods of food preparation that eliminate the chance to get infected and our bodies haven't evolved to not be infected with them

Well you need to know your baseline consumption for no gain no loss balance.
1700 isn't very much at all, it's a fairly small amount for a grown adult to live off of and if you're not getting the right mix of nutrients out of your food, yeah you may not see the best losses you can get.
Must have made another deal with Lucifer, the heretical warlock.

Are you though? I thought the same until I started counting calories and figured out I'm only getting in 1500-1700 calories a day which is quite small.
Holy shit I wouldn't recognise him if you didnt tell me or i heard his voice

It's not magic though. It's basic elementary-school level thermodynamics.

obviously you aren't actually eating as much as you think you are
and no, "eating an entire pizza" (favorite claim I've noticed from people who say they can't gain weight) one day and nothing the next doesn't count

If you can't gain fat, gain muscles.
He looks older
Losing the weight sure gives him an air of dignity. He looks like he could be your grumpy college professor.

Count your calories. I've gained about eight pounds over the last two months.
If you can't gain fat, gain muscles.
Pretty much this, if you can't gain fat aim to build muscle, it will in turn, build fat because you need that to support more muscle.
Just don't go crazy, you don't need to go full bodybuilder eating chicken faster than you can shit it and downing so much whey protein that you're practically snorting it like a cocaine addict.
Just buy a bunch of Soylent 2.0 and drink that. It's bland and each bottle is 400 calories making counting easy. Would work the same way as potatoes with a more rounded nutrition.

that's bs. i've ate equivalents of an entire pizza for weeks on a row and still didn't gain.
I find it amazing he doesn't want stuff like hamburgers and steak anymore.
I thought humans were attracted to greasy, salty, fatty foods due to natural instinct.

If are actually eating 2500+ calories a day and still not gaining weight (without much physical activity) , then you have a diagnosable medical problem.

or he already weighs 300lbs
