I'm feeling the cyberpunk in these videos, this is somehow promising from what I've heard about GITS.
I was skeptical about this movie, but #5 kinda seals the deal that they actually put effort into it. Might have to go see this.
This doesn't look bad (actually pretty good), which is a plus, but...seeing Scarlett Johansson in this role feels wrong. I get it, she's an android and doesn't have to look asian, and that Hollywood thinks that you have to put a white person in the main role for audiences to care, and I get all that- I still think a Japanese actor would have been a better fit for this Japan based story about a Japanese woman put into a generic Japanese robot (though of course, this part of the story is probably changed, as it has been variable in the past)
My problem is that Scarlett Johansson is in it,
Her acting ability is limited to different grains of wood and as usual she looks like a deer trapped in the head lights at all times.
I really hope they focus a lot on the philosophy side of GITS; That was always the core of the anime movies to me. They need to have scenes where the characters discuss and question the sort of heavy themes the originals did, even if briefly.

lmao seriously. The defense for this was "Oh noooo she's an android she could be of any race!!!" but then why the fuck is the rest of the cast Asian? They obviously care enough to cast supporting Asian actors but lol the main character HAS to be white.
They also HAVE to get the music right. The music of the movies and show always had this sort of cyber-spiritual-international sort of feeling to it.

Also when it comes to the racial controversy, I'm kinda on the fence. As an Asian I would like to see more Asians take more starring roles, but at the same time I understand that the Japanese were okay with the casting of ScarJo.
I think Ghost City is probably the best song to be honest.

I always try to sing falsetto on those parts, loved that intro. 2nd Gig's was excellent as well.

#1, #2, and #5 really gave me chills a bit (mainly the great mixing of cyber-aesthetic touches into the more traditional mask+garb), and then the other 2 because they really, really [I]nailed[/I] live-action cyberpunk. That being said, I'm now quite a bit more interested in this GITS movie after watching all of these- that means their marketing's working well.
Not even Beat Takeshi can save this movie

#3 is the only one I have a problem with. Just the tone of scene didn't really strike my ghost in the shell fancy. The others though had that feeling thankfully. I'm hyped for a trailer at least.

Damn I was just about to post these too, my faith in the movie skyrocketed with #1. It actually has the cyberpunk aesthetic down, it's not all clean looking and shit like Minority Report or other movies that try to be cyberpunk.

Well to be honest, Motoko never did entirely look Asian to begin with. And funny enough a lot of the people complaining that I know of have never seen Ghost in the Shell, which kind of makes their arguments a bit off. Hell I'm half Asian myself and I really don't see much issue in this because I think Scarlett Johansson looks more the part than the girl from Pacific Rim everyone wanted to play Major. And when you're casting actors for roles, getting the look down is the most important part, and Motoko really doesn't look Asian, she has a Japanese name, yes, but when it comes to her actual look I think they actually did try. Even the creator of the manga was perfectly fine with her being Major as well, and even went as far as to say she had the right look.
If they have Tachikoma they better have the VA from SAC.

Motoko looks pretty different between each adaptation anyway so for me personally it's not that huge of a leap now that I'm thinking about it.

all but the 5th and maybe the 4th look similar
also, the expression that the actress had in the 5th teaser really made me doubt how good the acting will be. She looks like a deer caught in headlights
