The only thing that these people understand is brutality. Peace talks aren't going to work so what else will? Drop the scariest shit on them possible and maybe a few of them will back down.

The logic ISIS uses: These people will not submit to our ideology, therefore we should murder them in the most brutal way we can think of as a warning to others.
The logic people mad at ISIS use: These people are killing people for no good reason, we should kill them so that they can't kill more people, they don't show mercy for other people, why should we show them mercy?
Be real for a moment, people who immediately call for glassing the region probably aren't thinking things through, but there's a significant difference between hating people who kill other people and wanting to kill them and hating someone who doesn't submit to your backwards belief and wanting to kill them.
I was about to post an optimistic rating, then I realized I misread the title as "Islamic State militants burn to death".
How much worse can they get burning civilians alive?

'Not showing them mercy' is bombing them conventionally or just shooting them. Using white phosphorous would be going out of your way to cause brutal pain to them.

iirc ISIS doesn't generally behead prisoners with a clean cut, but rather slowly with a knife.
