More than 40 per cent of Australians do not know how long it takes the Earth to travel around the sun, according to a new survey.

It found nearly 30 per cent did not know if humans lived at the same time as dinosaurs, and that 41 per cent did not know it took the Earth a year to travel around the sun.

The survey also found a decline in young people's scientific knowledge in recent years. Back in 2010 when people aged between 18 and 24 were asked the sun orbiting question, 73 per cent got it right.
Source How do that many people not know? It was one of the basic things I learnt at school. Then again I was one of the only kids who actually paid a bit of attention to the class.
They seriously need to go back2basix.
They're all from Queensland. It's the only way it makes sense.
Depends on if 365 is an acceptable answer, or if they require you to say 365,25. Because if the latter, it's an easy mistake to make.
I guess the whole blood going to your head when upside down doesn't make you smarter.

To be fair, when fighting for survival everyday, learning how long a year is the least of your worries.
i'm not sure i know either is it 356? idk

I reckon if you ask, "how long is a year?" way more people would get the answer correct than, "how long does it take the Earth to orbit the Sun?" Even though they're exactly the same question in the end I can see most people not making that connection.
-slow punch-
Just because you're going to lose Origin tonight
nah us qlders are the smrt state, it means we best at evrythang.
nah us qlders are the smrt state, it means we best at evrythang.
Eight in a row mate
More than 40 per cent of Australians do not know how long it takes the Earth to travel around the sun, according to a new survey.
AKA they asked the question in such a manner so that lots of people would get it wrong and it would make a good sensationalist news article. Bullshit media at it again. I can assure you that you would be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't know the answer if you ask "How many days are in a year?"
and its from the ABC, c'mon step up your game
AKA they asked the question in such a manner so that lots of people would get it wrong and it would make a good sensationalist news article.
It's still a failure of logics to not be able to answer.
Eight in a row mate
Time for the toads to step down from their pedestals. If worst comes to worst, we'll beat you next year.. 8 or so months, right?
Eh, I don't have another country to compare this to
Americans know how long a year is. A year is 365 days of god blessed freedom. Leap years are gay because we have one less day of freedom
Time for the toads to step down from their pedestals. If worst comes to worst, we'll beat you next year.. 8 or so months, right?
Toads aren't going anywhere and as long as we win and I don't see that Tom Waterhouse fucker I'll be happy
We're all thinking it. Don't deny it. However the idea of this is still terrifying...somebody hold me, I'm scared...
Americans know how long a year is. A year is 365 days of god blessed freedom. Leap years are gay because we have one less day of freedom
Um. How is 366 one less than 365?
Just because you're going to lose Origin tonight
Who's playing? Actually never-mind, this joke doesn't play with flagdog on the fritz.
I know the answer! It takes a year!
Um. How is 366 one less than 365?
Shh, just give the American a gold star and move on.
Um. How is 366 one less than 365?
He's joking that there are 365 days of freedom in a year and that in a leap year, that extra day isn't filled with freedom.
'Murica Fu- Oh wait....
the fact that people take this movie as anything more than a silly comedy terrifies me a lot more.
how come they can get away with saying "40% of australians" if they only studied like 1500-2000 people? i guess they technically mean 40% of the australians that they studied but its worded in a way that makes it sound like they're talking about the entire population.
Quite a coincidence that it takes exactly a year for the earth to go round the sun, what are the chances of that
