• First time making Cannabutter, Did I mess up?

Allright, so I decided to make some cannabutter for some brownies yesterday. I ended up not looking shit up, listened to a friend who basically said "Crush it up, put it in a tea bag or something similar, simmer it in some butter for 30 mins". I did that exactly, i put 2 cups of butter (1lb) into a pot and melted it. I didn't have a tea bag so I used a cloth bag for some sun glasses that water could pass through and i thought that would work. I put the weed into that, put it in the butter, and let it simmer for about 30 mins while stirring. it started foaming on top after a few. After a while instead of the green color that everyone says it should turn it turned a red/brown color and residue was gathering at the bottom. when the time was done, i turned it off, took the weed out of the glasses bag, and was immediately not sure if i did it right, so just in case i put it in a ziplock bag. After sifting the liquid i ended up with about 2/3 a cup. I left it as it was, melted, and then poured it into my brownie mix, replacing the oil with that. I put the brownies into the oven, cooked normally, took them out, and let them sit until they were no longer hot. I ate a pretty decent sized piece, it tasted like weed, and i got an okay body high, but it was nothing like actually smoking it. It also made my stomache hurt pretty bad and i just became tired and eventually went to sleep. Did i do this right? Any help would be appreciated.
I usually just put the weed directly into the butter and just sift it afterwards. I never got a good high from this though. [editline]2nd May 2011[/editline] Smells like shit/ tastes like shit.
i would never make any edibles with anything less than dank weed.
It shouldn't taste like weed if you didn't leave the bud in there. Make sure to keep the heat extremely low for butter, as it burns a lot more easily than oil. For a beginner, I actually recommend you start out with oil. It's a lot harder to burn and mess up. Did you grind the stuff up until it was powdery? That is important as well. As long as the heat is low enough, you can leave it on for like up to a day, so don't worry about time. I'd say thirty minutes is a pretty bare minimum though. I've left it on for over three hours. Next time, instead of teabagging just throw the powdered bud straight into the butter/oil and after you're done simmering it in, strain the plant matter out with a cheesecloth. Again, it shouldn't taste like weed, an the stuff that comes out should look like it has been vaped. As or the high- that's usually how brownies do for me. They make you a little sick, then give you a real heavy body/face high. v:v:v
So put butter on low flame, then throw powdered weed into it? If it's vaped does it matter how long since you can eat it alone and get high?
turn down the heat, put the weed directly into the butter, when your done put it into a container and put it in the fridge so the water and butter seperate. [editline]2nd May 2011[/editline] grind up the weed good
make oil, faster and harder to fuck up than butter
Don't listen to the guy above me its easy as fuck to burn oil and loose product. [editline]3rd May 2011[/editline] sorry if that came out a bit rude
use equal parts butter to weed (finely ground, use hash for awesome results)
Cannabutter... Or you could smoke it. I've always wanted to make brownies just to try it, but it's too much work when I can just light up my pipe.
Get a vape, store your vaped weed, eat vaped weed or mix it with virtually anything and get high.
Don't listen to the guy above me its easy as fuck to burn oil and loose product. [editline]3rd May 2011[/editline] sorry if that came out a bit rude
Butter burns at 250–300°F olive oil - 460°F
What does one do with THC oil? Only thing that comes to mind is to make an italian sandwich, which would actually be pretty awesome.
Butter burns at 250–300°F olive oil - 460°F
THC 260 so yeah when butter starts to turn brown you know your going to high oil will just sit there and burn off THC without telling you
What does one do with THC oil?
THC 260 so yeah when butter starts to turn brown you know your going to high oil will just sit there and burn off THC without telling you
yeah mine turned a bit brown, thats why i was thinking that i messed it up.
I'm just saying make cannabutter because half the people who will read this do not contain the aptitude to pull good cannaoil off, more power to you for using oil
It's easier to make foods with hash imo. It dissolves nicely so you don't have all the weed floating around. It tastes worse though. At least the hot chocolate I made did. Worst thing I ever tasted. Got me high as fuck though. Blacked out like 3 hrs lol. I used a tiny bit too much hash in it lawl. Was first time eating/drinking cannabis so I was unsure about how much to take. People kept saying you have to use more weed/hash to get high than when you smoke. And I read on some forum to use like 2-3 g depening on how high you wanted to be lol. (this was of course for brownies that you don't have to eat all in once... Which i learned later) So I drank 2g. Fucked up as fuck man.

I didn't want to make a new thread so I'm bumping this. I'm gonna have a few grams of vaped weed that I'm planning on throwing in with some cookie dough and just eat it raw, but how vaped should I make it? I normally take it out when it's still a little tiny bit green, but I don't want to under do it and make it so i'd have to cook it to not be wasting it.
I've made brownies with vaped weed before, but it didn't work all that well to be honest. Try not to burn it (leave green)
How much did you use though? I'm gonna save my vaped weed for around a month

Make oil or butter, it's really not so hard.
That'd defeat the point of using vaped weed, it's like getting instant mix and then mixing it with dough you made from scratch. When you vape it you do the same thing that putting it in the oven does, so putting it in longer will just get rid of more THC even though it would have already gotten you high.
you gotta get the thc to bind to the fat cells and itll only do that when its heated
Then why can you eat vaped weed plain and get the same effects of an edible?
if you can then i guess your right. haha ive jus never heard of it before
I haven't personally done it, but a guy on r/trees confirmed it. The main reason I don't want to use an oven is because the only one I have access to is going to be used for business so I can't really be putting edibles in there
If you wrap it up it won't smell that bad at all. I did it in my oven when my parents were gone and they had no idea.
By "going to be used" I mean my mom is going to be in the kitchen cooking for a job, that'd be pretty badass if it worked though :v:
When I did it the first time I followed this guide and everything went much better than expected:
i would never make any edibles with anything less than dank weed.
Well that kind of your loss since a general rule of thumb when making cannabutter is the quantity of weed and not quality, I usually just buy a truckload of 60 pot for close to nothing and keep my 120 for smoking
