Warcraft, the film adaptation of Blizzard’s MMO behemoth, has been screened for critics, and reviews now are rolling in quicker than a murloc mob’s respawn timer. The consensus? Not great. It seems that Warcraft isn’t going to be the sweeping success that finally breaks the videogame movie curse. That said, we’ll be reserving judgement until we see it ourselves. Who knows? Maybe Warcraft is a film purely for the fans. But for the average viewer, the accusation so far is that it's an overly earnest, character-driven blockbuster that collapses under the weight of its own ambition.
So far I only see 5 reviews out with 3 of them being negative, but considering one of them is from a major publication and calls it "battlefield earth" without the benefit of unintentional comedy, I'd call that a pretty bad sign lol. Still, we'll figure out what the actual consensus is in a few days.
colour me surprised ! ! !
It looks so bad but im still seeing it. It looks like a bad movie from the early 2000s
On the subject of terrible movie renditions of popular media, does anyone here remember Eragon?
Just thinking back to it makes me cringe.

Pretty sure that was the movie that first made me start actually checking who was making a film before going to see it. ty imdb. I still think back to how they replaced the dragon growing up normally with a pokemon-esque evolving sequence and just fucking laugh.
finally breaks the videogame movie curse.
The basis of a video game is the gameplay, not the story. Most video games have shit stories when looked at solely through that lens. And the few ones that do still are played for the gameplay at the end of the day.

You are reminding me of a tragedy which I had wiped from my memory.
Nothing will be that bad of a rendition of source material for a while. That was a true travesty.
It should be noted that early screenings are, as a general rule, more optimistic than general screenings. This is bad news. Still going to see it though :v:
What a world we live in that Angry Birds is the only game franchise to have a decent movie adaptation
I don't know why it's so hard for Hollywood to get right. Silent Hill and Resident Evil could have been absolutely stellar but no, lets ignore the source material and what made them such great and atmospheric works of art.

Postal was decent.
Postal was decent.
Postal was decent because it was just as crude and vile as the source material.

Don't forget the full frontal from Dave Foley
For those who are worried about Duncan Jones's career, he's already got another project in the pipe, so he's not totally screwed by this
but what kind of bad are we talking here
super mario bros the movie type of bad or DOOM movie type of bad? can you ironically enjoy it's bad point or does it have no redeeming qualities?
So by the Metacritic standard The Angry Birds Movie is currently the highest rated movie based on a video game or video game franchise.

Angry Birds is a surprisingly deep and rich cinematic experience, it's basically pure kino.

Doom was a good movie, they just fucked up one of the most important parts of the story because the producer was religious and didn't want demons in the movie. It's not a good Doom movie, but it gets the job done in terms of goresplosions and a kickass first-person sequence.
This looks like a horseshit cash-in that has no love for the source material. I can't say I was surprised by the bad reviews.

I love the postal move, so many great scenes
Should note that the critic calling Warcraft 'battlefield earth' gave such good reviews to DB: Evolution and Jem and the Holograms.

Decent film but it really missed the mark by going the "normal guy in a crazy situation" route. That scene is by far the funniest too, most of it is average/okay but some parts are just bad.

how embarrassing
I'm reserving judgement until I actually see it(when its on cable), but I figured there was a reason why they were giving away WoW Starter Kits or a month of game time or whatever it was with ticket purchase.
Still, odds are it will be leaps better than the Assassin's Creed movie.
for what it's worth the AC movie trailers gave me more hope than the warcraft trailers.
i expect that to be prince of persia tier mediocre at worst
The Angry Birds movie already broke the videogame movie curse
I don't give a fuck about Warcraft (cause i'm not a NERD) but I want to see the hell out of this movie
primarily because it's Duncan Jones but secondarily because it looks like such goofy fantasy shlock and just looks like the perfect popcorn movie, like I'll go in and watch giant green orcs punch each other and I will enjoy the hell out of it

Please, no... I'm still salty over it.

not with a 43% on rotten tomatoes/metacritic
all we wanted was "blizzard cut-scene: the movie" and we got this abomination instead.
this should have been a fucking mindless slam dunk.
next in line, assassins creed
