This thread is for all you band geeks who love your marching band. Say what you do and don't like and such.
Wooo! Marching band is awesome, i love marching, although i seem to be the only one at my school who does I play trumpet
I'm in marching band as well. I play mellophone. Our theme for this years competitions is 'Midnight'. Pretty awesome.
I play the timpani and our show is awesome and our school kicks ass. The show was written by one of our directers, and is called Kinesis: The Art Of Motion. The intro and outro samples are my voice, which is funny because it sounds bad, I hate my voice, and the shit he used as the outro is redundant. If you're a 1A school and are in our area (i don't know how DCI and all that shit or whatever works), get ready to probably lose to us. We're going to the state finals I think probably. I don't know shit. Drumline we always go to Dayton OH but I'm not doing drumline because I don't have time for that bullshit. I'm from San Marcos High School, by the way. [editline]11:28PM[/editline] Here's us in '05.
This was our show this year. Please ignore the fact that our flags aren't very good. :P [editline]07:02AM[/editline]
I play the timpani and our show is awesome and our school kicks ass. I've played trombone 2 years and sousa this year. Got 10th place BOA Super Regional Atlanta. Might march in college. Show this year
Timpani in a marching band?!
Pretty much was going to say this. I am first trumpet in my high schools' band, but I absolutely loathe marching. I shine while sitting in front of an audience, not walking down the street in the pouring rain and horse shit. Of course that only applies while doing parades, which is what my school's marching band does. Parades, not field show things. Our band is not nearly large enough to do a field show type deal.
My school does pretty decently considering we just had a change of band directors, but people at my school just don't have their hearts in it. Not to mention we're overshadowed by Tarpon Springs HS, which many of the middle schools in the area send all of their band kids to >:(. Most of you have probably heard of Tarpon Springs HS, I'm pretty sure they were champions at BOA Super Regionals in Atlanta this year.
Sousaphone is where it's fucking at! I know that if I'm playing that instrument, I'll always be seen, and it sure is a lot of fun! Our band consists of around 120 people in total. Around 100ish actual players. We did two band festivals this year, Troy's Sound of the South Festival and Florida Band Masters Associated and got straight superiors in both. This years show was. Call Me - Blondie, Holiday - Madonna, Hey Mickey - Toni Basil, Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me - Elton John. Call me (Skip to 4:00) Holiday - Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me Keep in mind, those videos were taken when we pretty much JUST got our whole show down. We have improved since then dramatically. FBA Warm Up The camera we use is crappy, so it's really quiet, we sounded a lot bigger, especially that night. The Univserity I wanna go to is Troy University. They have a GREAT marching band. I was there for this performance, and you could literally feel the band in the stands. [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeV7E-v31zw&fmt=22[/hd] Yeah, I love marching band. [editline]10:07PM[/editline]
Timpani in a marching band?! Blasphemy! Haha.
The front ensemble adds a lot to the show if you have a good pitt working it. They used to make marching timpani's, ones that had carriers and people literally marched and played them. [editline]10:10PM[/editline] Our marching band doesn't need a bass player. Us tuba players got the bass on lock. :v:
Is timpani in marching band an uncommon thing? I'm in southern California and most of the bands that I've seen have them (but sometimes just 2 drums, not 4). Pit's important. Our band is 1A, but we have 2 marimbas, 2 vibes, timpani, percussion rack, and 2 synths in out pit. No bass or guitar players.
