A district judge has sided with Apple, laying down a sales ban on one of Samsung's flagship Android devices, the Galaxy Nexus. More bad news for Samsung in its legal battle with Apple: A U.S. district judge has just granted Apple a preliminary injunction against Samsung's Galaxy Nexus phone. That's the same device Google handed out to developers at its I/O conference just a few days ago. Apple had requested an injunction against the smartphone in February, alleging that it infringed on several of its patents. An injunction would keep it from being sold in stores. According to Reuters' Dan Levine, the injunction can go into effect as soon as Apple posts a bond of "nearly $96 million. He added that the decision centered around U.S. Patent 8,086,604, which is Apple's unified search functionality. CNET has reached out to Samsung for more information, and will update this post when we know more. An Apple spokeswoman reiterated the same statement the company has run with since it took aim at the South Korean technology giant in a patent infringement suit last April. "It's no coincidence that Samsung's latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging," Apple said. "This kind of blatant copying is wrong and, as we've said many times before, we need to protect Apple's intellectual property when companies steal our ideas." Reuters was the first to report the news, which was handed down in a decision from District Judge Lucy Koh in a San Jose, Calif. court this afternoon. The win is Apple's second against Samsung this week. Late Tuesday the iPhone, iPad and Mac maker was awarded a preliminary injunction against Samsung's Galaxy Tab device, a ruling that also came from Judge Koh. Apple quickly followed through with a $2.6 million bond to get the gears in motion, however there will be an additional hearing before that goes into effect.
Source FUCK APPLE That's all I have to say.
seriously?!
Is apple really this Jewish? I don't see it.

This is just petty. Judges need to throw out these cases as soon as they arrive.
Yeah that's fine, just FUCK everybody who actually wanted the Nexus. Cunts.
BURN IN HELL APPLE. I AM NEVER BUYING ONE OF YOUR PRODUCTS AGAIN.

I can't wait to live in a world where I only get to choose between a $500 Idevice and a $600 Idevice with specifications that would've been considered outdated years ago. Praise be Apple, praise be Steve Jobs.
Is apple really this Jewish? I don't see it.
This is what we're talking about. It's not about the design patent anymore. It's the software.
The only things that are similar to me are the 4x4 icon layout, the dock (although if they were to show a phone running iOS 5, the docks would be different), and the corners of the phone (but seriously, there's only so many ways you can curve 90 degrees).
As much as I absolutely detest Apple, I have to say those two phones look similar in a lot of ways.
What the hell do you want them to do then? Fuck patents, fuck design. Its fine as it is. This feels like someone patenting wheels and sueing every car from other brands for using them.
Building upon NeoAznMan's comparison picture I've put together picture showing the phones at different angles. What a useless judge.
It's not about what the phones look like, people.
that the decision centered around U.S. Patent 8,086,604, which is Apple's unified search functionality.
Please learn to read.
It's not about what the phones look like, people. Please learn to read.
and that alone constitutes it not being able to be sold?
For fucks sake all of this patent litigation is really unnecessary.
Come on, they can't ban a phone over something as basic as a search function. These judges may be taught to judge, but I guess they were never taught common sense.
It's not about what the phones look like, people. Please learn to read.
Another scummy software patent from Apple. The Patent Office needs to get their head out of their ass and invalidate all software patents.
Original iphone design isn't really all that imaginative to begin with tbh.
This is what the iPhone looked like in 2007 compared with other phones (and an ipod) of the time.
Something better be done regarding these patent laws soon. [editline]29th June 2012[/editline]
This is what the iPhone looked like in 2007 compared with other phones (and an ipod) of the time. More than 50% of the area of phones, especially smart phones prior to 2007 were taken up by keyboards.
This patent shit is getting beyond fucking insane, how in the holy fuck has nobody done a god damn thing about this yet?
Something better be done regarding these patent laws soon. [editline]29th June 2012[/editline] How else do you want a touch screen phone to look
This was what Google designed for Android in 2006.
More than 50% of the area of phones, especially smart phones prior to 2007 were taken up by keyboards.
So? The limitation of screen space had to be addressed eventually. It's like if a tv company patented flat screens or something it is just retarded.
Did the judge walk out with a "free" iPad
It's not about what the phones look like, people. Please learn to read.
I'm gonna patent screens then, so your phone can't even have one. This is just hindering everything. Its exactly like those plans from evil geniuses. Destroy or make the competition crap and force people to buy your overpriced shitty crap.

It's a horseshit patent that needs to be thrown out. Heuristic searches have been around for ages upon ages, even if you think patenting something so basic and broad-sweeping should be allowed (it shouldn't) it absolutely should not warrant an injunction. Is there any way to try to appeal patents? Is there any single entity with authority over patents that I could send a message to? I can't believe how firm Apple's grip is, they have the balls of the law in a vice.
It's horrifying and painful that a company is trying to force a monopoly not through innovation but through abuse of the legal system. I'm glad I already have my Galaxy Nexus but this is just riduclous, ever Android ICS phone has this unified search, and I think it was even in Gingerbread too (read: 99% of android phones)
I'm not sure if it's scary or funny that the government will crack down on monopolies gained by having a better product than the competitor, but will overlook and even aid the creation of monopolies built up through cracks in the legal system.
