So, over the past few weeks of summer starting back up, I've been noticing that a lot of smells for me bring back distant memories that I would have never remembered if I hadn't smelled whatever it was. For example, the smell of distant burning charcoal brings back memories of my family's lake house, which we no longer own. The smell of peaches brings me back to my sixth birthday for some reason, freshly mowed grass reminds me of some vacation spot my family used to frequent who's name escapes me...
My question to you guys, is simply this; Does this happen with anyone else? If so, what smells bring on nostalgia for you?
This happens to me but I can never seem to remember what I smelled. Usually for me, it's a very quick scent. I smell it for a few seconds, and it's gone. I can't really describe it. Sometimes it can be of food, sometimes it can be of city smells or the outside smell. I don't know, but I rarely get this.
The smell of feaces reminds me of a secret basement i use to have in Austria. Those were the days...
the smell of Nintendo 64 after a few hours of gaming :frown:
Moth balls remind me of my grandma's house.
I like the smell of CLP and gunpowder.
The smell of Vinyl flooring
My grandparents house had this old person smell, that was actually nice since they were neat freaks. But my grandpa has since past on and my grandma lives with us, and every now and then I'll go into my grandmas room and the smell will be there.
Also the smell of breadsticks from Little Caesars.
The smell of a city is very nostalgic for me.
When its raining...
Oh my that smell...
it's like freakin' catnip...
The smell of fire and the general smell of a camp ground. Reminds me of when I was a kid and lived in a trailer throughout the summer. Every night we would have fires and cook hotdogs/hamburgers over them (or we'd barbeque them) and sleep in hammocks, and it always smelled great. Some of the best moments of my life happened in that camp ground, so smelling fire is the biggest shot of nostalgia I can get.
When I brushed away the dust in my lost box, I managed to find my original gameboy and when I smelt it, this rained through my nose.

The smell of steak reminds me of my grandpas house, he always made it.
Smelly gel pens.
Especially the popcorn flavoured one.
Fun fact - this happens because the olfactory nerve is close to the amygdala, which is closely linked with emotional memory.

Gasoline and brackish water, or "Boat gasoline" as I call it.
It happens to me. Especially the smell you get after you've been crying for a long ass time. And the smell that you get in the woods after a rainstorm.
They say the since of smell is the most likely to spark memory. If that made any since.
The smell of rain reminds me of the days in my old house I used to sit outside and watch the thunderstorms.
Play-dough
I smelled my first real six string. It reminded me of the summer of 69.
Piles of old shit (lamps, clothes, weird crap like that) reminds me of my grandmas old house.
