• Cheap mist maker / hazer / smoke / fog machine for photography?

I'm investing in a fog machine. I don't really have a set budget, but I want it to be as cheap as possible. But [I]before [/I]you post any, read this; What I want: * A durable, re-usable (or re-fillable) machine. * A machine safe for inside and outside use. * A machine that can (possibly with the help of a fan) create an even haze that adds a subtle depth to a room and easily separates a motive from the background. Examples: [img_thumb]http://olayabarr.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/philip.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0siQdhxnuj0/T0aj_u-pmtI/AAAAAAAAggM/rw_rjxIZEVc/s1600/gregory-crewdson-untitled-the-father-e28098beneath-the-roses_-2007.jpeg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://www.fanphobia.net/uploads/actors/25059/By-Gregory-Crewdson.jpg[/img_thumb] What I [B][I]don't[/I] [/B]want: * A machine that creates smoke with rough and uneven smoke, that remains that way even if it's blown around with a fan: NO: [IMG_THUMB]http://www.waikatosl.co.nz/sites/default/files/fog machine.jpg[/IMG_THUMB] YES: [IMG_THUMB]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6a/Smoke_Machine_engineer.jpg[/IMG_THUMB] * A machine that create fog that dissipates too quickly to be evenly distributed by a fan. * A machine that has expensive fluid or is expensive or impossible to re-use. * A machine that's too large or heavy to carry. Any help appreciated.
Isn't it easier to achieve the effect through post-processing?
just in case your search doesn't go well, i have an idea that you could use as a last resort if it's for a photoshoot, right, get everyone involved (including yourself) really into smoking cigars [editline]29th November 2013[/editline] [QUOTE=Cabbage;43015981]Isn't it easier to achieve the effect through post-processing?[/QUOTE] wouldn't quite get that volumetric light effect though
You could use those little handheld water misters, you get a thin, even mist but you could only use them for close-up shots because they're quite small/slow
What you could do, if you're really desperate, is to buy a pack of cigs, find some kind of small air pump or similar and stick the cigarettes in it(after you light them). Not really healthy, but it works.
dry ice and some airflow manipulation of course, if you go with dry ice or similar, be very careful. renting a smoke machine is also an option, probably the best if you can't afford to buy a decent one.

to get the effect you're wanting a cheap part smoke machine will work well, just pump loads into the area and wait for it to dissipate a lil
Musiciansfriend sells them for cheap, just but a gig fog machine and give it time and it will work pretty well.
