Trump says he will bring down the price of wall on Mexico's border
President Donald Trump pushed back early on Saturday on assertions that the wall he wants built on the U.S. border with Mexico would cost more than anticipated and said he would reduce the price.
Trump made his comments in two Twitter posts but did not say how he would bring down the cost of the wall.
Reuters on Thursday published details of an internal report by the Department of Homeland Security that estimated the price of a wall along the entire border at $21.6 billion. During his presidential campaign Trump had cited a $12 billion figure.
"I am reading that the great border WALL will cost more than the government originally thought, but I have not gotten involved in the ... design or negotiations yet," Trump tweeted from his Florida resort, where he is hosting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
"When I do, just like with the F-35 FighterJet or the Air Force One Program, price will come WAY DOWN!"
Trump, who took office on Jan. 20, said in late January that his administration had been able to cut some $600 million from a deal to buy about 90 F-35 Joint Strike Fighters from Lockheed Martin. Defense analysts and sources downplayed news of those cuts, saying the discount hailed by Trump was in line with what had been flagged by Lockheed for months and would apply to other countries committed to the program.
A border wall to stem illegal immigration was one of Trump's main campaign promises. He has vowed to make Mexico reimburse the United States for its cost but Mexico has repeatedly said it will not do so.
Trump also tweeted on Saturday about another aspect of his immigration policy - the legal battle over the presidential order banning entry to the United States by refugees and citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries.
By hiring illegals I bet...
US Military engineers, forgive the student debt of wall builders(pay for college?), and give tax breaks to concrete manufacturers who discount the prices by 25% ~ 50%.
I'll take my paycheck and FFL Class 3 license in the mail.
How? By executive order? Named "Bring the cost of the wall WAY DOWN!!!" no less?
Sorry Easy D, but this isn't like taxes. You can't just write it off and never pay for it.
How? By executive order? Named "Bring the cost of the wall WAY DOWN!!!" no less?
This is assuredly going to at least be part of it. It's like he thinks he's got fucking death note.
"When I write in this notebook - tremendous material on the binder, here - I can make anything come true. All according to keikaku, folks, let me tell ya."
I think it's starting to sink in that he's not gonna get everything he wants just by snapping his fingers. He will probably crack under pressure soon enough. The cracks are beginning to show already.

He said decrease.

Trump cracking under pressure would require Trump to be psychologically capable of admitting fault, uncertainty, or inadequacy -- even if only to himself. I legitimately do not believe that he possesses this capability. If reality does not support his narcissistic perspective, he invents his own reality and tries to force the world to acknowledge its legitimacy. The man is mentally ill.

"Hey uh constructioners or whatever you are, can you like make the wall how I want it, except cheaper? Yeah that'd be sweet, ta."
fucking A, is everything he does going to be "well I havent whipped out my magic jesus tier negotiating skills yet, you know I taught that guy the art of the deal right, he was like giving all these fish away and all this wine and I taught him how to make a deal you know because Im such a good negitator."
what a fucking idiot
Snip-O
Probably just using the army, alternatively luring the unemployed for unskilled labor as a part of a paid government work program.
Still i'd like to hope that he'll fixes the debt system for Charter Schools because that system is terrible.
He'll make it cheaper by not paying the builders like he's done before
Fuck this ridiculously transparent sales tactic. The original cost of the wall ends up being expensive. Trump swoops in and says I will use my magic business prowess to bring down the costs. The new costs are slightly lower and everyone celebrates how much he gets done and how hes cleaning up spending overruns in Washington. Everyone then is talking about how he saved money on the wall instead of the fact that he wants to spend billions of dollars on a pointless fucking wall.
It's such a transparent tactic but his supporters fall for it so hard.
hey mr trump that's cool and all but have you considered what could really bring the price of this wall down? not building it

but on the other hand there's no way he'll actually finish it by election season so it's a moot investment either way
Why does the price mattet if Mexico is paying for it? I sure hope we don't compromise our border security over a couple billion dollars
I think people are not seeing the scale of how much $21 billion is. The fucking Manhattan Project cost $27 billion dollars after inflationary adjustments. The cost of this wall is in the same ballpark as a project that changed the world forever. There are just so many things that could be done with that kind of money.
thought mexico was paying??

I do not see how this is relevant. So we saved some money on those jets, that does not mean the money can automatically switched to the build-o-wall fund. That is still the DoD's budget money. That extra $600 mil will still be spent by the military, just in some other fashion.
thought mexico was paying??
It has been changed to "we pay for it now, and Mexico will reimburse us at a later date" now.
In the big picture of government spending the wall really doesn't make much of a dent. It's actually much cheaper than I expected if these numbers are to be believed--only some $3.5b per year. I wouldn't be opposed to getting the Army Corps of Engineers to do the actual work.
I wonder if we could get the ACE to build it? It's a bit out of their usual realm, but wouldn't take much more than 1% of the annual military budget.
how much to maintain the wall over the next 100 years? 10 years? what about the impact on the economy? what if the cartels blow a hole in the section? dig under it? a bad hurricane hits it? there's literally zero research or studies being done on this thing.

if i spent $21 billion dollars developing a sentient robot designed to throw eggs at the wall all day it would also 'not make much of a dent' in terms of government spending but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be a massively fucking stupid thing to do

The issue I have is that any of that money, whether it's 25 billion or 3 billion, could go to something actually useful instead of this wall that'll do nothing.

Like education and infrastructure, stuff that helps in the short term and long term.
No President ever gives as much of a fuck about education and infrastructure as they should.
how much to maintain the wall over the next 100 years? 10 years?
It was estimated by the Congressional Budget Office that the wall maintenance would exceed the cost of the initial construction within seven years. And that's maintenance for a new wall.
If you support the wall I don't know what to say. Do you just legit agree with Donald on everything? He says jump you jump?

It's really a waste of money because it won't solve the problem you're asking it to.
Conch, I genuinely get that you want stronger borders. That's a very valid desire.
But you have to realize this isn't the way to get that, and you shouldn't be okay with the partisan politics, should you?

What is your alternative?
