Daizi Zheng designed the 'greenphone', which is powered by Coca-Cola, as part of her final university project. The Central Saint Martins graduate came up with the concept for Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia. Ms Zheng said the prototype could run up to four times longer than a traditional lithium ion battery and has the potential to be fully biodegradable. The greenphone's bio battery generates electricity using enzymes to catalyse sugar in the drink. As the battery dies out, only water and oxygen are left behind. Unfortunately, Nokia will not be developing the greenphone prototype further in the near future. Ms Zheng told Sky News: "At the time they wanted something to bring out within the next two years and thought my design was too futuristic." But she added that bio batteries are being developed by large electronics companies and may be on the market in the next five years.
So it will pee on me?
Awesome, when the phone is "empty" you can just drink it and refill.
ban cola its putting energy companies out of business
About time they made batteries with sodas, every other one I tried tasted funny.
Organic things. Fuck yeah.
why coca cola though?
Can I put soda water in it?
pepsi ain`t got shit now.
Yup, I'd much rather pay coke to charge my phone then use a charger for free..
Kinda old news, they have been developing these small ultra thin strips that let you run ipods and stuff off of bodily fluids. Its gonna be a cool future.
Yup, I'd much rather pay coke to charge my phone then use a charger for free..
You can use anything with Salt/Sugar in it.
What the fuck my phones don't deserve my coke >:c
You can use anything with Salt/Sugar in it.
If I pour tons of sugar in water, will it work?
This is really cool. Too bad nokia is a dumbass. "Too futuristic" as a reason why they won't use a phone? Do they have any idea how bad that shot themselves in the foot? With that attitude Nokia's gonna be going out of buisiness in 10 years. I suggest she takes her concept to another phone company. This would be the sweetest shit ever, everyone would want to try one and buy one, AND it's "green" which means consumers will eat it up like candy. When that happens nokia's gonna be eating their own words for denying working phones for being too futuristic.
Last time i spilled Cola over my old Nokia cellphone, it died :saddowns:
If I pour tons of sugar in water, will it work?
As long as it can conduct electricity really, cant just use water though it isnt how the strips work. I cant remember off the top of my head what they use, but it basically creates a battery using salts/sugars. For anyone asking, yes you could use your piss, sweat, and spit.
Awesome, when the phone is "empty" you can just drink it and refill.
I bet it would taste like shit though, almost all the sugar will be gone from the drink. Alright, what did I read wrong this time :\ The source says :
The greenphone's bio battery generates electricity using enzymes to catalyse sugar in the drink.
So the sugar would be used up, surely?
Yup, I'd much rather pay coke to charge my phone then use a charger for free..
Have you seen electric bills lately?
Haha thats funky stuff ^^.

I have a feeling we're making stuff just to prove we can now. But still, think of what we could do with these. :science:
"Too futuristic"... Nokia - The dumbest phone company ever , how the hell something can be too futuristic? Is this some pixel wars with phones as units or what :frog:

The implications on Society would cause drastic changes and a period between the changes wouldnt be pretty. You have to slowly ease into new technologies.
One step closer to Cola-powered cyborgs in the future. (One Piece reference okay)
If the drink runs basically on sugar, why don't they use Pepsi?

Plenty of companies have made something really neat and useful then trash it for being "right outta startrek LOL!"
Yup, I'd much rather pay coke to charge my phone then use a charger for free..
I have a feeling Coca-Cola could be useful in some situations. Simply refilling your phone with Coca-Cola provides your phone with an instant charge I'm guessing, and so you're saving yourself the time waiting for your phone to charge, making it more convenient in some ways. I've had times where I can only fit in a small amount of time charging in a rush. Also, if you're out and about and your phone goes dead. A quick trip into a shop and you can refill your phone quickly and easily.
Waiting for Apple. [editline]08:01PM[/editline] iCoke
Waiting for Apple.
Bet their phone's gonna run of the blood from newborn infants.
For everyone saying waiting on Apple. Apple is already working on an ipod attachment for this technology.
