Now I love all those things, but it would kinda insulting to name those things rather than stuff with actual implications like high-end research in transport, medicine, robotics and imaging and basically everything else that makes Japan a global player.

I think he said that for an appel to the younger generation, hence him saying "especially our young Americans."

he didn't appeal to anyone
Praising their culture isn't insulting
Most of Otaku culture is looked down upon by mainstream and older Japanese citizens.

It's called "humor". Maybe you've heard of it?
It's called "humor". Maybe you've heard of it?
humor's fine but there's a time and place for it and i don't feel this was exactly the best of either
President Obama could have done us a real solid by thanking them for metal gear and Hideo Kojima.
Anime/manga isn't looked down upon much at all. Most of the more recent stuff is ignored but Japan has a lot to thank when it comes to anime/manga. The business is huge over there. The several Japanese おばあさん’s that I talked to while I was over there (including my own home-stay grandma) didn't have any ill dislike for anime. They just don't care. Also old dudes/old grandmas play their Nintendo DS's on the train so take that bit of info as you will.
Thanking Japan for anime makes as much sense as thanking God for the black plague!

did you write that in hiragana because you don't know what it translates to or did you just want to jerk off all over the thread
did you write that in hiragana because you don't know what it translates to or did you just want to jerk off all over the thread
Wow, where is this coming from?
did you write that in hiragana because you don't know what it translates to or did you just want to jerk off all over the thread
I dunno that fact that he put obaasan and grandma in the same sentence shows me he understands what it means.
did you write that in hiragana because you don't know what it translates to or did you just want to jerk off all over the thread
I don't think you know who you're talking to.

Someone doesn't check flagdog.
Obama has been making a move to appeal to youth culture recently, with his humour at the WHCD and the youtube livestream he did, I think he wants to be remembered by the youth as a good president.
thing is his flagdog on fp is US thou

My bad, I saw daigennki's reply and thought that was who hydrated replied to.

(I think) I've talked to him directly and I believe he's told me that he lives, at least for now, in Japan and can speak Japanese fluently.
Now let's not get any further off track.
being able to speak japanese fluently doesn't change that throwing hiragana into an english sentence on an english speaking forum for no good reason is 100% wankery

If that was your point to begin with why didn't you just say that before instead of assuming I don't know what I was writing.
it was a strange writing choice but it's nothing to take a fit over
i.e. Japanese politicians including the Prime Minister
Kids and young adults.
Otaku isn't a nice word, its like calling someone a cunt in America. Harsh and cold.
[editline]30th April 2015[/editline]
Also, wasn't the previous Prime Minister or Abe a self declared Otaku?

I take it flaming is OK as long as it's done in a language mods don't speak. I'll keep that in mind until next time.
