I've been offered a position in an Intel Prize project, and need advice!

Facepunch, I've run into a major impasse in my life here. Today I was offered by my teacher to join a team for the Intel Prize. Now, I'm incredibly excited and want to join in it...but, at the same time, I'm also incredibly anxious. I've been on FP long enough to realize that asking these questions tend not to end well, but I really hope you guys can give me some good advice on this(I also have seen people get banned for threads like this, and I hope I do not become one of them). The problem here is that I'm 14, and a freshman in high school. I don't feel like I can live up to the expectations and work requirements for this project, but I really want to join in on it. So, FP, got any advice for me?
Go for it man, whats the worst that could happen??
if you want to do it do it.
Yeah, just go for it, you are destined for greatness!

That's what I keep telling myself, but I just can't shake this feeling that I might not be ready for it yet. Like it might just be too much work, that I wouldn't be able to handle it at this point in time.
Write your essay on how AMD CPUs are better in the budget market and Intel falls behind in both the CPU and GPU scene

If it becomes too much, can you not drop out??

Dont let yourself down, your going to regret later, its going to be challenge but then again i have never done anything like you are going to do.
Give it a try. This can be one of the turning points in your life.
There is no reason not to say yes.
Pffhaha, can't belive I misstyped it as no instead of yes.

I would assume so, but if I'm going to commit to it...

If you're not ready you're not ready. But you won't know before you get there. Just go in and give it your best shot. It's how things work. Even if you don't really know how to do something but have a certain idea on how it works you should say "Yes, I'll do that" if someone asks you to do it. Then you'll have to ask a bit around for help and such from others if it becomes really problematic.
So basically, yes. It's a talent scout, you give it your best and either you fail or you win. There is no one that will look down on you if you don't make it. It is impressive enough to have gotten there.
Go for it, this is a once in a life time opportunity.

I guess so...thanks for the responses, guys. You've all been a great help, and I can only hope some further ideas come up.

There are a lot of once in a life time opportunities
Like suicide

This is sewious.

Wow, that's pretty heavy...my would-be team is working on a paper which details a theorized nature of Black Holes, quantum realities and subspace.

You're 14?
Can i see your birth certificate?

Haha, yeah, I said the same thing. Apparently all my seemingly nonsensical ramblings about Subspace fields, matter anti-matter reactions and physics that I learned from Stargate/Star Trek was actually logical.
No, you gotta invent a way to reach subspace. Otherwise it's boring.

Ironically, that may or may not be what this project is about. If so, holy crap
Wait, so are you actually clever or not?
Imagine getting into a convention of clever people when all you know is star trek...
Go for it dude. Life is what you make of it.

I've considered that too, but my science teacher assures me that I actually know what I'm talking about. Now, this is news to me, but it is incredibly flattering. So yeah, I'd like to think that I am indeed clever.

Haha. Well, if you aren't you'll know it fast enough.
But a teacher should be trustworthy enough I think, especially if he is in contact with such a team.

Yeah, apparently the team that she's in contact with has, at one point, had a grant from MIT, so it's serious.

the answer is sabotage
just walk in there, kick your shoes off and play the seed 2.0 loudly
if you don't win, i'll give you a hundred dollars
Definitely do it.

In a German Intel computer science competition teams can name themselves.
I considered naming my team "Team Opteron" if I ever got in :v:
