Mitt Romney Says Bill Clinton Told Him Hurricane Sandy Won Obama Election
Mitt Romney claimed during a call with donors on Wednesday that he received a call from former President Bill Clinton, who told Romney that had it not been for Hurricane Sandy, he might have won the election.
ABC News offers the following transcript of the former GOP presidential nominee’s comments:
”I spoke with President Clinton the day before yesterday, he called and spent 30 minutes chatting with me. He said a week out I thought you were going to win. And he said, but the hurricane happened, and it gave the president a chance to be presidential, and to look bipartisan, and you know he got a little more momentum, and of course he also said that when he was watching Ann speak at the Republican convention, he decided he was tempted to join the Republican Party. So he may have just been effusive with generous comments as he chatted. He was very complimentary, by the way, of how well we did with middle-class voters, and he said they were surprised by how strong we were in Ohio and in other states with middle-class voters, they did exceptionally well with minorities, but white, middle-class voters, we really cleaned up with and that caught them by surprise.”
Clinton, of course, served as one of President Barack Obama’s chief surrogates in the latter months of the campaign, playing a significant role in breaking down and debunking the vague components of Romney’s proposed tax plan.
The former president would not be the first to frame Sandy for Romney’s loss. In the days leading up to the election, Republican strategist Karl Rove and aides within Romney’s campaign began pointing fingers at the hurricane for halting the candidate’s momentum. Republicans also decried top Romney surrogate New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for lavishing the president with praise over his response efforts in the wake of the storm.
But the theory that Sandy is accountable for the president's victory is questionable. Little evidence in both national and swing state polling supported the idea that Romney had sustained the momentum he gained following the first presidential debate.
A spokesperson for Clinton did not immediately return a request for comment.
During the same call reflecting on his loss, Romney also attributed his defeat to "gifts" the president handed out to Latino, black and youth voters.
"The president's campaign, if you will, focused on giving targeted groups a big gift," he said. "He made a big effort on small things."
but what about all the gifts you were going to give to the rich
Is this all failed candidates do after they've lost? Bitch?

McCain didn't.
and meanwhile the Republican part is abandoning support for Romney:

Yeah, well, Bush told me you're stupid!
I'm not going to post a picture of a crying baby again but it applies to this situation completely.
Dude, the president handled devastation from a natural disaster well, with fore-warning. Clearly the election was too one-sided, and we should do a revote when all the Hurricane Sandy propaganda nonsense is over with.
Just stop talking, you sore loser.

And I seriously doubt that Bill said he would join the Republican party.
Like come on Romney, that's libel.
I'm calling ABSOLUTE HORSE-SHIT. Bill Clinton too damned smart to even recognize Romney as a viable candidate.
It doesn't help that the Romney Campaign's contribution to the recovery effort is mostly remembered as re-branding a political rally as a relief effort and collecting cans of food which the Red Cross strongly advises against doing.
Yeah,I think he's making shit up.
Why would he give an amazing speech, practically smashing the Republican party, a week after the RNC, if he was thinking about joining it.
This American Politics thing is exactly the same as the fucking Jersey Shore Celebrity Gossip Bullshit Machine, except the consequence of the game is human suffering.
Hurricanes are an act of God
Hurricane Sandy got Obama reelected
QED God wanted Obama to win
Man he should of just left it where it was after his concession speech, he left very graciously and that was it.

How is this harming anyone?
How is this harming anyone?
Because these sorts of "gaffes" and shit help people get elected(or ruin the chances for elections). The focus is on shit like this and it often helps bad people get into power.

Actually, not really (#3)
How is this harming anyone?
Because they spend more time flinging shit and trying to make their opponents look bad than actually working on ways to help the people.

Except Todd Akin's Gaffe is the only thing that kept his stupid ass out of the House this year.
Also, this is just looking at the straight effect of a specific gaffe but not actually investigating the effects of having a "gaffe driven political machine."
I like Cracked, but half the time they make lists, they just shit out stuff.

Well Akin Todd is on a whole other level of stupid, that just discusses 95% of gaffes which are usually tame

Well it makes sense, do you think any major numbers of people switch parties just because Joe Biden thought "jobs" was a three letter word? And besides, they have stats to back it up

I'm still talking about something different from you. It isn't individual gaffes, it's a culture that I'm worried about.
Either way I don't want to derail the thread. My comment wasn't intended to start a discussion about gaffes, more to just shake my head at another "celebrity gossip story."
Obama obviously created the hurricane with HAARP.
Remember when Romney was asked about FEMA after Sandy and he pretty much ignored it, there was even a news thread about it?
Sandy didn't give Obama the election, Romney being an idiot about FEMA(and pretty much everything else) was.

Yeah, he said he wanted to get rid of or privatize FEMA. When FEMA suddenly became very relevant, he began dodging questions about it.
Even if Bill did say those things he was probably being sarcastic.
I doubt Clinton said that, but honestly when you look at the numbers: it did. Romney's stance on FEMA and Obama's disaster relief efforts did really tip the scales in Obama's favor when the storm hit.
